How do I motivate myself to work??

Settings: I am in my office in the library. I have no customers at the moment. My boss is on vacation. My co-worker just left for the day. There is a bunch of newspapers I need to look through. There is the catalog that needs tending. There are books that need to be cataloged. There is DU.

So tell me, how to I get myself to work???

1. Forget it
You'll never motivate yourself under those conditions. Surrender to it. ;)

3. I have the bad (or good???) feeling
that I will surrender very easily. Not much force needed :)

6. You don't.
There are some things you just can't fight. Maybe you could get your iPod out and listen to some music while you go throught the motions, but even that might require more motivation than you have.

:hi:

8. What?
Are you the only person on this planet without an iPod? How can that be? :wow: Guess you'll have to settle for online radio.

We are the only ones on the planet without 1) DVR, 2) big TV (or HDTV or widescreen or plasma or LCD), 3) video game player thingy ... to name a few of the most popular modern toys.

:hi:

9. Well, I have a mp3 player
of the more cheaper side.

I neither have a DVR, big TV or video game player. I am not interested in videos games, so why should I have a player thing for that????

12. OK, so plug in the mp3 player
and put on your favorite tunes. :D

Oooo, there are TWO people without those cool toys. I like some video games, but not enough to spend all day playing them or spending the money for a player.

10. Can't help you there, I've been having motivational issues myself
I'm leaving my job as soon as I find another. I always find it impossible to concentrate on a job when I've decided to leave. Added to that are things such as the new company owner is freakin' batshit insane and I haven't seen my boss in at least a month.

13. Okay...here's what you do...
You go and get a few of those newspapers that you need to look through and put them on your desk so that you look like you're doing something constructive and then you play on DU. And, if you absolutely must, when a patron needs something you point them in the right direction. Just to assuage your conscience. And besides, that way, if three or more patrons need your assistance through the course of the day, you can always blame them for the distraction. Which would be why the newspapers didn't get finished. I mean, how can you be expected to concentrate on all that newsprint with all those interruptions?

Geeze.

:P
