I hardly thought it possible, but my gift wrapping skills seem to have worsened.

I HATE wrapping presents. Love buying them, love giving them, HATE wrapping them. Watching me wrap presents would be like watching an infant try to diaper him/herself. My packages are crumply, they have patches where I failed to cut enough paper and wouldn't start over, and all the tags are on crooked, because I'm so lazy and impatient. They're for the kids, so I doubt they care much, really. Are you meticulous about wrapping, or do you just ball up stuff and try to coccoon it in a mass of paper and tape, as I generally do?

1. Gift bags and tissue are the way to go for adult presents
Edited on Tue Dec-19-06 02:36 PM by CottonBear
but kids need to rip off wrapping paper and they really don't care if the present is neatly wrapped or not. :)

You could use those pretty Christmas boxes and put the items inside with tissue and then tie up the box with ribbons. No tape needed and the box can be reused!

I've mostly given up on actually wrapping presents unless I absolutely have to do it.

3. Gift bags are good for kids!!
I usually stuff about 47 separate sheets of tissue paper in there, so that they have to dig for the present

When giftbags aren't an option, I consult the "lots of tape and cursing school of wrapping" on how exactly to proceed. You should see some of the fugly presents that santa's gonna be leaving under my tree this year!

2. Wrap them in newspaper
And use bright green and red ribbons. They really don't look bad like that and the kids still get the fun of tearing the package open. We always use newspaper for the big stuff.

5. That's a thought- but it won't make me any better at wrapping-
I think that's pretty much a lost cause.
:D

6. My husband is anal about wrapping.
He just stands there watching me do it and shakes his head. I don't here him volunteering, though.

11. Mine is anal about it too...
In fact, he makes me put the presents I've wrapped (the ones I bought for him) behind the tree where no one can see them because I do such a crappy job. He has to pick out the perfect paper for each person and adds little ornaments and crap like that to the boxes.

8. I used to use aluminum foil a lot
It's shiny, molds to the package easily and if you add a colored ribbon, looks pretty good. I've been cranky for the last several days because of wrapping. Hate it, hate it, hate it!

I have a sister who is an immaculate wrapper (sounds like a hip-hop artist - The Immaculate Rapper). She takes hours to wrap a single present and curls ribbon and adds sprays of holly berries, etc. Makes me sick. It all just gets torn off in 20 seconds anyway.

10. Shiny paper is easier to use
I used to work in a department store, and they offered pre-wrapped gifts (the gift would be on display, and then you'd purchase the item already-wrapped - quite popular with the guys)

I wrapped hundreds and hundreds of boxes, and the lightweight metallic paper was SO much easier than paper paper.
