My vet came up with a fantastic (we hope) solution for Richard! |
|
We're treating Richard for coronavirus (maybe he has that) and giardia (he definitely has that). Well, we're trying to treat him. The medicine is so nasty that when we try to give it to him, he fights us as if he's fighting for his life. So he's not getting any better. And he barfs if we get any in him, and I think he's barfing because of the stress. My poor baby.
The vet called yesterday to check in on him, and we told her about Poor Richard and our trouble in medicating him. She said the only other way to get the meds in him is intravenously, and of course that would require a week's hospitalization. She said she'd get w/ the other docs today and see if anyone can come up with anything.
She called back today to say the owner of the practice (so no approval required! :)) suggested we board Richard there for a week. The vet techs will give him the medicine. Since he'll be in a kennel () they won't have to chase him, and since they give all kinds of animals medicine all the time, they'll be able to get it into him.
How much to board? $23 a day. I was figuring hospitalizing him would cost around $150 per day, at least. (This isn't the least expensive veterinary hospital near us, but they're the first one we went to and we're sticking with them.)
So we'll take Richard tomorrow and say ta-ta for a week. :( But when we bring him home, I'll bet he'll be all better! :loveya:
I'll post an update after we bring him home. Thanks for everyone's thoughts for him.

7. hey Kim, I had to do that once |
|
I had a desperately ill cat I simply could not give critical medicine to - so he stayed at the vet's office for a week and I visted him every day :)
