1. Not one of the great boundary-pushing rock artists
The albums tend to blur together after a while. But within his cozy niche, he's very entertaining. Solid songwriter, soulful singer, excellent backing band, witty, self-deprecating stage presence, aging handsomely, he's got quite the package. His music is not a guilty pleasure, it's a genuine one.

3. You mean he did more than sing that song...
...from 'Wild at Heart' or whatever the movie was called? Who knew?

4. Puts on a great live show...
...not sure if he still does this, but on the "San Francisco Days" tour, he RAN from the stage at the end of the show to the souvenir stand and signed autographs for everyone who wanted one, posed for pictures, and was a genuinely friendly, funny guy. I really enjoy his music... maybe it's a sign I'm mellowing. ;)

6. He does that at virtually every concert.
My daughter has had dealings with him in different jobs that she's had. He seems like a nice guy, but the typical rock-star mentality. I've met him and he has the most beautiful blue eyes I've ever seen.
I love his 'Baja Sessions' CD. Wonderful music for roadtrips.

5. Cool!
I'm listening to his Christmas album now. My introduction to him was through the TV show, great marketing IMHO!

he's hysterical.

i used to follow him around when he played in san francisco and berkeley.

13. Yeegads I must have seen you!
I was a big Chris Isaak geek back when he was playing Nightbreak on Haight every Friday night. I later haunted his shows at various The Stones around the BA. At the Nightbreak shows I would stand so close to Isaak I could see his pores. :D

He is hot, funnier than shit, and puts on the BEST live shows. I always thought his album/video work never caught his spirit properly.

15. The STUD?!?!?!
Now THAT must've been a hell of a venue for Chris! Holy smokes! I'm surprised he was ever able to get off stage with his clothes on. :D Shoot, I thought I'd seen a lot of Chris Isaak shows -- it looks like I missed the best ones!

SF really is a small town -- everyone runs across everyone at one point in their time here. My Mom used to hang out at The Stud with her bud back in the day. Me, I went for The Cafe more. :hi:

17. What year was that?
Edited on Wed Dec-20-06 02:48 PM by Zookeeper
I used to go to the Stud. Had a great time celebrating Chuck and Di's wedding there.

I saw Chris Issak at a little bar on Haight St. I can't remember the name anymore, but it was a block from G.G. Park and had a bowling alley a few doors down (early Rock 'n Bowl). The place was tiny and I was standing on a chair in the back looking over the heads of a mostly female audience. Chris is a very handsome guy!

Do you know if Hamburger Mary's is still open?

18. oh yeah -- as far as i know hamburger mary is still open.
oh god it's so long ago -- when was it i used to see him there?

had to be the early nineties -- but i'm not sure because it was after the stud moved up the street.

now the old stud is or was a bar called holy cow.

19. I'll bet that area has become quite gentrified by now.
My Hamburger Mary/Stud/Chris Issak days was the early '80's. (Heavens! Now I've given away my age!)
