Grandmother Drives Scooter Into Storm Drain
<snip>

MIAMI -- The grandmother who drove a mo-ped into a storm drain was in a Miami hospital on Wednesday.

Fire officials said the woman apparently took a sharp turn and drove right into an open storm drain, falling about six feet.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue spokesman Ignatius Carrol said the woman's body was stuck in the middle of the drain against the vehicle. Had she fallen further, Carrol said, she could've drowned.

The woman's family said she took the moped Tuesday night to go the store.

The victim was taken to the hospital and was in stable condition.
