Gods the venom that is spewed in the "main" forum here! |
|
Not a direct quote, but the gist of some of the posts goes something like this: "those climbers deserved to die up there!"
I know I am in hypersensitive mode tonight, but shit, that makes me so sad.

3. The difference might be, and I'm not sure, |
|
that you don't run into burning buildings for recreation, but because you are paid for it.
However, nobody deserves to die on the freezing mountainside. It's a risk. You take that risk too.

GD has always had its share of heated-debate threads, and I'm participated in some of them. But for the most part, a level of civility has been maintained. These days, though, yikes! Oftentimes, the debates turn into personal attacks.

24. I once read someone in GD say something to the effect that... |
|
Nuking Japan in WWII was okay because since it was a time of war, the life of a US soldier was worth more than the collective lives of everyone in Japan. This was from a long-time poster. I've been fairly jaded about the idiocy in GD since then and have decided to stick mainly to the lounge just so I don't end up putting a hole in the wall with my forehead.

32. Not an uncommon sentiment |
|
I've heard/read it many times — but usually by a Freeper or other uni-cellular life form.
I used to hang in a forum for classic Chevy owners that had a board for general discussion, much of which was political. One guy was waving the flag all over Iraq this one time, and it seemed he was saying Iraqi lives aren't worth anything. I pressed him until he said, "I don't care if non-Americans die."
I was startled to learn that people cool enough to be into old cars could be such raving RW maniacs. Guess I'm still kind of naive.

28. I haven't been in touch with any kind of news |
|
(I almost always get it from LBN, anyway) in a while, so I didn't know about the climbers, but the response in GD is all too predictable. I've joined the fray before in relation to similar occurrences (a death on Everest, the whole Steve Irwin desecrationfest) and could probably just post the same wording in reference to the current issue. It's syndrome that these sick f***s have....they're not only lacking outright logic but monumentally lacking in compassion and -- further, and importantly -- almost certainly spew their vitriol largely because they never did a damned thing in their entire lives (or, at least, nothing that equates even remotely to what people who choose to participate in potentially 'high-risk' activity accept as the price of admission).
To hell with them. If I was God and had to decide who 'deserved' to die, it'd be f***knuckles like these GDers rather than random climbers...really, though, at least those people who died on that mountain lived before they died.

31. There's also a lot of what I call "illogical logic" going on over there. |
|
Instead of "if, then, thus, and therefore", it's "Because it's MY opinion, that's why!" Oy. I love debates based on logic and reasonableness, even if -- and sometimes especially if -- passion is thrown into the mix. But passion without logic or reason often devolves into just plain meanness.
BTW, nice to see you, Forrest. :loveya:

I don't like the woman, but I can't dance with joy when I hear she's sick. I disliked Reagan alot more, yet I felt sorry for him and his family when he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. Think of it this way: what if it were Hilary Clinton and Jimmy Carter?
