1. What does Level 3 mean?
Repeat offender?

2. Uh, oh.
What was the crime? Did he do the time? Because he shouldn't do the crime if he can't do the time.

The newspaper said he served two years.

9. Well. the good news is, he isn't interested in children.
The bad news is, he IS interested in, well you know.

Keep your doors and windows locked all the time.

Not that I won't be paranoid, anyway...

I can't even imagine how she must feel.

18. That seems like too short a sentence
For a violent crime. Of course I do not know the circumstances but I would be worried too.

20. Here's what our paper described:
"engaged in sexual contact with an adult female victim, which included penetration. He gained compliance through use of threats and physical force" It also said he "did not know the victim prior to the incident."

26. TWO YEARS???
If men got raped as often as women, that sociopath would never see the light of day.

15. dead serious
he was on his way to law school, and got arrested for public indecency at a graduation party. the law school found out about the sex offender registration, and refused admission.

i lost touch with him, but last i heard he was working in a warehouse.

21. That's terrific.
A man who rapes a complete stranger using physical force gets a whole 2 years in prison. Some dude who pees in an alley behind a bar has his life ruined. Seems real fair to me. :wtf:

23. it's horrible.
some people showed up at trial as character witnesses, but because of the charge brought by the DA's office, and the way the law is written, the judge had no discretion.

He didn't have to go door to door, but has to register with the Sheriff's office and his name is available as part of the public record on the sex offender database.

for pissing in the dark.

12. No- I read about it in the local paper. I'm afraid he might have a son
two doors down from us. That would put him practically next door, if he visited the people that I think are his parents.

28. A female co-worker once mentioned a male friend of hers went through
this exact same situation - I was kind of skeptical of her story at the time, but now I feel bad for ever doubting her. This is such a ridiculous miscarriage of justice...

30. Today I spoke with the wife of a "sex offender"
Her husband was walking down the street with a friend. A hooker drove up and propositioned them. They weren't interested, but joked around with her, and asked how much she charged. Next thing you know, they were swarmed by cops. It was a sting operation, and six arrests were made among the workers getting off work from one business.

I feel really safe knowing our police forces are used in this manner.

22.  the folks with torches will probably be at his door
before long.

I have mixed feelings about these things - on one hand, I wouldn't want anyone like that living near me or my kids, on the other hand, people have to live somewhere and the registry laws almost seem like a public pillory at times. I wonder if these folks will all end up living in some kind of predator ghetto.

29. Forget about it. If you were totally aware of all the danger around you you'd never go out!
Seriously. You are surrounded by people who have done all sorts of things: drunk drivers, rapists, murderers, drug dealers, armed robbers, petty thieves, untreated mentally ill, psychopaths, the vindictive, and who the hell knows what else. In reality your never more than 60 seconds and a few missteps away from horrible, unimaginable tragedy, it's just really unlikely to occur.

So don't sweat it. Odds are you'll be totally fine.

Aren't I the little optimist?! :P

33. This whole classification stuff is BS...
If the guy is likely to committ the offense again, what the hell is he out for?

To me, if you have to classify someone as 'likely to re-offend' then they shouldn't be let out in the first place. Duh.
