The bar has been raised. Canadian blows .479 after been found in car, asking kids if they're horny
Edited on Thu Dec-21-06 01:32 PM by Little Wing
When it comes to drunk driving, Rodolphe Robichaud set the bar high.

The 52-year-old Metro Moncton resident could be the region's drunkest ever drunk driver after medical tests showed he had a blood-alcohol level of .479, or about six times the legal limit of .08, after he was arrested by the Mounties during an incident this past fall.

Crown prosecutor Nicole Angers said Wednesday police responded to a complaint "of a man asking kids if they were horny." When they responded, according to the Crown, the Mounties found Robichaud passed out at the wheel of a vehicle that had struck a curb. Robichaud contested that part of the police file, stating that he in fact had left his vehicle and fell onto the sidewalk, bloodying himself.

"I had a bad day," Robichaud said, blaming the high reading on the fact he had consumed mass quantities of alcohol, all at once.

"I think I had a pint and I just downed it."

Once at the scene of the crime and finding Robichaud unresponsive, a Mountie ordered Robichaud brought to hospital, and then got a search warrant allowing him to seize a sample of Robichaud's blood.

A subsequent analysis of the blood revealed the high alcohol reading, the highest many veteran observers had ever heard of.

5. maybe it was a pint of everclear.
I had the same first thought as you; "a pint" is normally a beer term.

Guy is lucky to be alive at any rate.

3. With a blood-alcohol that high,
I'm surprised the dude is still alive. Forget the car thing. That's, like, REALLY high.

7. I'm sorry. I don't believe this. You don't blow .479.
Alcohol's LD50--the dose that will kill half the people who take it--is 0.40. This fucking guy had a 0.479? Damn near a full tenth higher? Good thing the cops found him because, by all rights, he should be dead.

I also know he's lying about his consumption because we can calculate this one. There are ten pints of blood in an average human. At a BAC of 0.479, he contains nearly a pint of pure ethanol. This asshole drank a fifth of Bacardi 151 rum, which is 75-percent alcohol, in about an hour and fifteen minutes.

There are only two dispositions for this sumbitch: either they will declare him the Menace of the Highway and permanently revoke his driver's license since he's a professional drunk, or he'll go free because a statute in every country says you can't convict the living dead.

11. Oh it is entirely possible that he had a BAL that high
And most likely an indication of a severe alcohol problem as well. I have heard of people with a BAL close to .5 being alive and still with us after that incident. They have also been people in substance abuse programs and pretty near end stage alcoholism as well. But it is possible.

13. Ya think?
This guy is going to die pretty soon anyway. If he doesn't lose it in jail from not drinking he will drink over the human body's limit. I think the same type thing happened to John Bonham.

17. yes indeed
A friend in AA blew a .28 . He had had nothing to drink for 11 hours before he was arrested for DUI.Many alkies have BAC's that register in the tens and twenties hours after they have had anything to drink.
