Does anytone know the title/band of the rock Christmas song
about standing in line for cranberry and she saw a boy she liked. Line went...Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas, hope you have some fun this year (?). Song was from around 1992 or so.

1. The Waitresses

"Christmas Wrapping"--my favorite! (From '81 or '82--an "oldie" now?)

"Bah, humbug!" No, that's too strong
'Cause it is my favorite holiday
But all this year's been a busy blur
Don't think I have the energy

To add to my already mad rush
Just 'cause it's 'tis the season.
The perfect gift for me would be
Completions and connections left from

Last year, ski shop,
Encounter, most interesting.
Had his number but never the time
Most of '81 passed along those lines.

So deck those halls, trim those trees
Raise up cups of Christmas cheer,
I just need to catch my breath,
Christmas by myself this year.

Calendar picture, frozen landscape,
Chilled this room for twenty-four days,
Evergreens, sparkling snow
Get this winter over with!

Flashback to springtime, saw him again,
Would've been good to go for lunch,
Couldn't agree when we were both free,
We tried, we said we'd keep in touch.

Didn't, of course, 'til summertime,
Out to the beach to his boat could I join him?
No, this time it was me,
Sunburn in the third degree.

Now the calendar's just one page
And, of course, I am excited
Tonight's the night, but I've set my mind
Not to do too much about it.

Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!
But I think I'll miss this one this year.
Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!
But I think I'll miss this one this year.
Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!
But I think I'll miss this one this year.
Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!
But I think I'll miss this one this year.

Hardly dashing through the snow
Cause I bundled up too tight
Last minute have-to-do's
A few cards a few calls
'Cause it's r-s-v-p
No thanks, no party lights
It's Christmas Eve, gonna relax
Turned down all of my invites.

Last fall I had a night to myself,
Same guy called, halloween party,
Waited all night for him to show,
This time his car wouldn't go,

Forget it, it's cold, it's getting late,
Trudge on home to celebrate
In a quiet way, unwind
Doing Christmas right this time.

A&P has provided me
With the world's smallest turkey
Already in the oven, nice and hot
Oh damn! Guess what I forgot?

So on with the boots, back out in the snow
To the only all-night grocery,
When what to my wondering eyes should appear
In the line is that guy I've been chasing all year!

"I'm spending this one alone," he said.
"Need a break; this year's been crazy."
I said, "Me too, but why are you?
You mean you forgot cranberries too?"

Then suddenly we laughed and laughed
Caught on to what was happening
That Christmas magic's brought this tale
To a very happy ending! "

Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!
Couldn't miss this one this year!
Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas!
Couldn't miss this one this year!

3. '82 WAS NOT THAT LONG AGO!!!!! (Sorry for caps)
It sucks that all the really fun stuff is now considered 'oldies'.

My first make out session was initiated with that very song at a Christmas party in '82.

And '82 WAS NOT THAT LONG AGO!!!!! (Anyways, that's what I tell myself)

5. Oh cripes I concur
Don't get me wrong--my glory days were the '80s--graduated from high school in '83--I was a New Wave baby. I don't think it was that long ago!

But then again, my 20th college reunion is next year, so I must be older than dirt.

7. Ohhh... yeah!
Ohhh... yeah! (Yellow). I always had a thing for the women of the class of '83 ('84 here).

I'll make a deal withya-- you put on your Gloria Vanderbilt's and a pink, fuzzy sweater and I'll get my Members Only jacket and topsiders-- then we be-bop around the lounge to some serious Loverboy and maybe the dance version of Rock Me Amadeus (I think I can still do the Moonwalk... but don't laugh if I fall)

8. Whoo fer sherr!
But I was more into stovepipe black jeans, a vintage baby blue cashmere cardigan (worn backward), some black plastic Madonna bracelets, a whole mess o' rhinestones, and a Chrissy Hynde pinstraight mullet, if you can deal with that.

You moonwalk, I'll do the Molly Ringwald Breakfast Club dance, 'kay?

13. I had Aimee Mann hair.
Short, brown, but with a little tail hanging out the side that I died blonde and braided.

My mother was horrified. For this reason, I enjoyed it while I had it.

16. Rockin'!
We were sooooo cool, no?

Dang, my mom fritzed when I came back from the mall with two extra holes in my head--just double-pierced my ears is all. Major meltdown, which I didn't expect! Thank goodness she didn't have to raise kids in this tattoo-and-tongue-pierced era.

4. WOW - NPR did a story on them just yesterday!
the guitar player sold the guitar that he used to record that song, then spent years tracking it down to buy it back. it ended up in Belgium.

17. Where? I couldn't find it.
I graduated HS in 1973 just in time for crappy disco which I so hated for a long time. The hippie days were gone and I missed out being too young. However, here comes the 1980s and southern cal KROQ...Rock of the 80's. What a wonderful station that was with all the wonderful music of that era and that's where I heard this song. Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, Valley Girl....almost the last of the old fashioned movies. Now all we get is computer generated remakes of classics. And as for music..Spears and Timberlake and hopping and kicking on stage. Boring.

There's a "listen" button at the top that I nearly missed (d'oh)--above the pic, just below the headline--you know, RIGHT where everyone should see it? Double d'oh! Old enough to need glasses!

Yeah, at the risk of sounding like an old fart (which I am though), the '80s was one of the best decades for pop culture. I haven't enjoyed any of the arts half as much since. I miss the creativity, originality, and vibrancy of the music, movies, art, nightlife, and all.

And don't get me started on Spears and Timberlake! :puke:

20. Thanks. I want to add that very happy song to my Play List.
Yes, I miss the 80s music. All these oldie stations play stuff from the 1960s and though I might like the music the stations play the same 60s music over and over. Hardly any Doors at all just to name one band. Just the top 40 on the AM dial. Why can't someone play 80s music on regular radio. They would sure have a market. Enjoy your holiday.

22. Totally agree
The only song I hear from the '80s on a regular basis is "Melt With You"--and while I did like the song then and don't mind it now, I have to wonder when it became the alleged biggest hit in all the '80s, that they have to play it so often now?

Ach, pop radio blows. I don't know why I bother venturing away from Air America at all.

Have a great holiday yourself! :hi:

11. One of my favorite Christmas songs!
Friend of mine made a Christmas song tape for me over 20 years ago. I still listen to it every Christmas season, and that song by The Waitresses is one of the best ones on the tape. I always sing along to it, LOUDLY! :bounce:
