college students! Help me with a gift, please. |
|
This is mini's mom, posting under her name. Ok, I need to buy a gift for my nephew who is a first year college student living on campus. This is the first time for him out of the house. Typical broke college student. Please help me with some suggestions. What did you find useful or really appreciated to get? I don't mind gift cards, what about a gift card to a gas station and one to a grocery store? Any and all suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

my first semester in college, I was always low on funds for food, clothes, and shampoo/laundry detergent...
perhaps a food gift card, and a gift card for Target, or store of that nature...
One of the things, I would've enjoyed was a computer, be it a laptop, or desktop...fighting over computer use in our labs, was always a pain..and usually happened, when a report of mine was due, and I had to fight to get a computer.

Target sounds good, then he can get whatever he needs most, be it cloths, or other. Thanks again.

5. A food basket would also be great. |
|
It's slightly more personal than a gift card, and just as appreciated, as long as you include things you would rightfully assume to be their food preferences.

A gift card to the nearest school/office supply store to his school. A gift card to the student bookstore on campus, or to Amazon so he can buy next semester's texts online. Some cash, if you really want to earn his eternal gratitude. A gift card to a decent place to eat near campus and to a movie theater, so he can go out on a date without having to check the ATM first. A few months paid at Netflix, so he can relax and watch a movie when he has the time. A minifridge, if he's in a dorm.

Those rule! Maybe find out first whether he has one already.
(edit to say: I can't believe I used the words "those rule". Must be because I'm recalling my college days in the 90s, LOL.)

9. Gift cards are good; also memberships. |
|
My only concern about receiving gift cards would have been finding the time to get to the store.
Gift cards to Target, Safeway, or Visa would be nice.
But a Netflix or Costco membership would also be great. (When I was in undergrad, all of my friends and I would split Costco orders).
