And You Think Canada Is So Cold?
I live in Ottawa, the nations capitol. Today, the temp is 7 degrees celsius (about 45 degrees farenheit for my American friends). It's expected to be even warmer tomorrow and straight through the holidays. We'll be having a green Christmas this year. We haven't even had frost yet this year and my garden is still green and growing!

So tell me why so many people think that Canada has such a cold and harsh climate?

1. Think the Yukon or NW Territories
where the cold air IS hanging around. That and Siberia of course. I would not be surprised to see those air masses come over the pole in the next couple months.

4. Hi Hypno!
I needed a break from DU for a while and I have also been undergoing some very extensive dental work (26,000 fucking dollars worth!) I have not been at my best lately. But the dental work is completed and I feel fine again.

So nice to hear from you too. Have a great Christmas if I don't the chance to speak to you before then.

3. It's very nice here in Calgary
As long as the west coast keeps getting pounded by those wind storms, we'll get nice Chinooks. I may even take the trailer to Banff next week.

7. You Are In Calgary?
My brother lives in Airdrie (did i spell that right?) I remember going to Banff three years ago with my bro. I loved it. It should be one of wonders of the world, except that it was so damn expensive! I guess that every tourist mecca costs alot, but $300 for dinner for two? A bit excessive for me, and it wasn't even a fancy resto.

10. Banff isn't bad in the off season
We often go for a weekend in October, there are good deals to be had. As far as the food is concerned, we hit Subway or something.

21. Hey, they're in first place
Of course, it's only two points between first and last in the division, but still. . .

Sens will only rule when they learn to stop choking in the playoffs.

23. Feh!
The Flames will do what they do traditionally..............LOSE!

The Sens are much more dignified.....as are all eastern people. You will lose again and again and again. Im not saying that the SENS will win, but if they lose, it will be with grace and good manners. Unlike those western uncivilised yahoos.

9. I'm Ecstatic
I've had enough white Chrismases to last a life time. I look forward to a holiday season without that white crap. White Christmases are way over-rated (apologies to Bing Crosby).

11. Yeah, that's what I figured.
I grew up in NC and live in FL now, so of course, I love snow especially for Christmas. But I can see why folks who have it around all the time get tired of it.

So in that case, I'm happy for you!:hi:

Merry Christmas!

25. Thank You
You are very sweet. I guess it's hard for a person growing up in the sun belt to understand what it is to live in Canada. This is my very first green Christmas in my entire life and I am loving it!

26. My parents are English
or rather..one English and one Welsh...but they met in Canada...I was conceived in Canada I am quite certain, so I feel a connection there, lol. They certainly have told me of the weather in Canada, they headed south for warm weather to NC! But I must have that in my genes somehow, being conceived there, no doubt on some snowy night...lol. I was born in August; do the math:P

Looks like there was quite the cold spell in the first week of december? A low of 3 degrees farenheit on the 8th?

17. The Ottawa River
is still liquid. Strange for this time of year, but really, it is still flowing. This year is really an anomoly. Ususally we have snow and sub zero temps by mid November. But not this year. Maybe Al Gore was right...........

We had a little bit of white a while back, but it disappeared quickly. We don't normally get lots of snow this early, haven't for years, but you'd think there would be *something*.

31. Edmonton was pretty nice today. The snow is knee deep
and the city finally cleared the streets somewhat well, so I'm not complaining. Now, a couple of weeks ago, I was about ready to go to the North Pole to get warm it was so cold!
