I had a bad dream that haunts me at times .....
Seems there is a room in my house that is filled with cats. Literally FILLED with them. Only problem is, my husband isn't an 'animal' person, so I've kept the cats secretly locked up for years. Haven't been in there to feed or water them. Now I know there are dozens of cat carcasses behind that door and I can't bear to open it up and face what I've done.

WHAT IN THE HELL DOES THAT MEAN????

WHERE IN THE HELL DOES THIS STUFF COME FROM???

sigh

1. Maybe it doesn't mean anything.
I believe that dreams don't necessarily mean anything at all.

3. I have a similar recurring dream
that I find my (now deceased) parrot barely alive, that I had forgotten about him and hadn't fed or watered him for weeks, maybe years. He's barely hanging on and eventually dies in front of me.

One interpretation that I mused on is there is a part of me (represented by what a bird is) that I've kept locked up, or haven't been able to express, and I'm now starting to realize it through these dreams.

9. It is
just seeing any animal in a dream in that state is awful, but when it's one you were (or are) very attached to, it's much, much worse. :(

Have you been needing some space? Some independence? To do your own thing? To stick your nose up at anything you don't want to do, anyone you don't want to be around? Just some ideas as to what cats represent...I'm sure you can think of more.

24. I have one like that about farm animals. In the dream,
I have a horse, or cow, or even a pig, out back in the barn, and have forgotten to feed it for weeks.

I have never had a horse, cow, or pig, so I don't have any idea why I would dream this. I do live in a rural area, but we don't even have a barn.

8. I Have Had A Couple Of Recurring Dreams
one is that I am at the end of the semester and I haven't been to class and I have to take the final but I don't know when it is!

(actually that happened once)

The other is related to past use of pot, I haven't partaken in over 25 years of that particular herb. But I will dream that I've been smoking it all along and I am trying to explain it to people.

Both seem to have the theme of loss of control and related to actual experiences I've had in the past.

Meh, I don't usually place much around them, but I notice they occur more when I'm under stress. Maybe they are a warning to my conscious mind to pay attention?

Like I said, I usually shrug them off and go on.

:hi:

11. Anxieties come out in dreams
I have been restoring an old house for years. In actuality, I've spent a coulple years resoring it enough to be comfortable, and many years avoiding finishing the parts we'll probably never use.

My recurring dream (almost nightly!) is that we're in our huge house (it's always really big in the dream), when one day we notice a door that we didn't know was there. We open it, and see that the house is MANY times larger than we knew, and it ALL needs restoration. Usually there are huge ballrooms, like 60 feet long, and full of cobwebs and decay. Just when we thought we had a handle on the project, it turns out to be bigger than we ever imagined.

In reality, this is pretty true to life. The house doesn't get bigger, but we definitely didn't know what we were getting into when we bought it.

16. Wow...that's interesting...
I used to be very good at analyzing dreams. I kept a dream journal and researched a lot. It's been awhile though so I couldn't tell you right off.

I would think the obvious thing is that there's a part of you that you're hiding from your husband & afraid to reveal thinking he may not approve and because of that there's a part of you that's starving. I don't know...sometimes the obvious is the answer and sometimes there's no meaning at all.

I find dreams fascinating though and I do believe the unconscious mind can teach us things. We just have to be open to tapping into it.

31. Wow... maybe
something you want, but you feel that having it would hurt someone else? I'm not very good at abstract stuff.

I had a disturbing dream a few nights backthat was sort of similar. My mom told me that Lisa was dead. Lisa was my cat and she died two years ago, so I wasn't suprised. But then Lisa was my dog who I have now (you know how things just change in dreams) so it was the dog that was dead. I went outside and saw bulldozers knocking down all the houses. I found a man who seemed to be in charge, and I said, "What are you doing? People live there!" and he said, "You hired me remember?"

And then I just feel really guilty, because I remember that I DID hire him. And I try to tell him, "We only hired you to fix the leaky roof!" but he says that after I hired him he became the new Mayor, so now he can do whatever he wants to.

What the fuck, right?

We understand the central theme of the dream but there can be a lot of stuff going on that doesn't make any sense at all. It seems like I'm dreaming more as I age.

Because my sis's cat just passed away tonight, not because of negiliance but because of suspected maliciousness, not on the part of my sister though.

But yeah dreams can be pretty f'ed up. I have dreams about DU and Skinner at times that make me go "huh?"

37. I've had similar dreams a number of times
with the theme of "forgotten animals I haven't fed in weeks/months/years." It is a horrible feeling. I think Engi's interpretation makes a lot of sense regarding the specifics of yours, but I'm never sure what the "neglect" guilt is about in mine.

My most recent one was about a pug puppy named Buddy that I'd forgotten I owned. I apparently had another apartment I was paying rent on but had forgotten to go there, and had left the puppy there without food or water for weeks. Luckily I realized it before it was too late (in the logic of the dream anyway), and even though he was very skinny, he was still healthy and happy, and I felt so happy to have him, that I actually felt sad when I woke up and realized Buddy didn't exist.

39. Metaphysical interpretation:
Perhaps in a previous life you were a person who owned a great many cats and lived the life of a hermit. You knew that should anything happen to you your precious companions would be left alone to fend for themselves. When you passed on, that is exactly what did happen. The guilt from that has followed you into this life. If you were to make sacrifices in this life toward a great many cats perhaps your Karma can balance out and the dreams will disappear.

That'll be $5 please... (you are allowed to donate my fee to your Christmas present fund for your favorite kitty)

43. Fascinating
I have the animal dreams, but it usually is that I've lost them.

When my kids were young I had recurring dreams that I lost my kids.

I have the recurring dream that I'm back in high school, that I can't remember my locker combination, don't know my schedule and sometimes I am either partially or totally naked.

I also have a recurring dream that I'm piloting a large passenger airplane and I have to figure out how to land it. This one is always frightening

My favorite "happy" recurring dream is that I can fly effortlessly any where I want to go (without an air craft).
