My sister's cat passed away tonight...
Hi all,

My sister's cat, Stank, a male, passed into the gentle night this evening. He was only with my sister's family for 6 months and he was a lovable and smart cat. We are not sure as to what caused his demise but me and my mother speculate that it may have been poisoning.

The children took it pretty hard. My oldest niece was the one who discovered him in the basement, twitching on the floor. My sister tells me that she was pretty freaked out. She also tells me that my nephew was quite upset and was throwing up. :(

I was at my mother's house when the news came in from my sister about the cat and at the time she was bringing him up from the basement. I went over there to see and yes the cat was pretty cathargic. He was breathing quite shallow and had his eyes closed. All I could do was pray over the animal. My sister had sent me to go to the store to get some cigarettes for her and some chips for the kids, probably to calm them down. When I returned my nephew came to me crying, telling me that Stank was his favorite cat and that it was his best friend. Yes he was quite upset, I mean really upset. That poor kid, those poor kids.

I went back to my mother's house and about a half hour later my sister called and said that Stank had passed away. She told my mother that just before he passed away she held him to her chest, he was twitching a bit and my sister told him "to let go, it's ok, just let go." Well at that moment the cat looked straight up at her and put his paw on her wrist. He then gasped, taking in his last breath and gave his soul up.

Like I said, we aren't sure what caused him to die like that, since he seemed to be fine earlier that day. He had been outside and I guess when he came back in he started to act funny. My mom speculates that someone is laying out meat laced with some kind of poison and killing the cats, as there are many, that are in the neighborhood. Or it could be the next door neighbors as they are probably mad at us from a situation that had happened earlier this year.

I just want to know, how can someone be so cruel to put that kind of suffering on a helpless little animal?

I pray for Stank. I know that God/dess has recieved him in His/Her arms.

At least he is in a much better place and not in this fucked world.

2. Thank you...
This is the second time the kids had someone or something close to them pass away in front of their eyes, but they really did take this quite hard.

6. I was in a good mood all day and then this happens...
Now I am really depressed. I have had these feelings since the holiday season began. My mom has been depressed all month, she has had no money to give presents to the kids so she has been upset about that as well.

3. I'm so sorry for your loss.
Stank sounds like a good cat. If your sister has any other cats, can she keep them inside until you find out if someone is poisoning cats?

5. There is one other one, Midnight
but I hardly doubt my sister is going to try and keep him inside. That cat usually will run out as soon as the door is opened as the kids often hold the door open long enough for them to escape. She did intentionally want the cats to be indoor cats but during the summer, the kids would, if they needed something would open the door and leave it open. She did yell at them about it but they still keep doing it.

I have told my mom that Val should call the Humane Society and see if they can do some kind of investigation in the neighborhood and whatnot, but my mom says that she is too much of a "chickenshit" to do that, meaning my sister is scared to take action on anything.

8. Can you call?
I bet you would not have to leave your name. I'm just worried about her other cat and the other ones i the area. I think people who poison animals have a special ring in hell all their own!

9. I wanted to but my mom advised me against it...
She said that my sister wouldn't want a bunch of people coming in like that. Besides I am not sure what the Humane Society would be able to do. We haven't seen any perpetrators and we are only speculating that Stank was poisoned.

But yeah, it pisses me off that people can do shit like that and pretty much get away with it.
