I Saw ROCKY BALBOA Last Night - Almost Had Me In Tears |
|
At several points in the film, the newest installment of Rocky had me watering and blubbery. This is such a superior film to Rocky V, IV and III (and on par with I and II). From the first scene when Rocky wakes up and feeds the two fully-grown turtles (the same one's he bought for Adiran in the first movie) I was hooked.
Then he proceeds to give a series of spine-chilling speeches, one to Paulie and one to 'little Maria' the grown-up version of a young girl from the earlier films) and finally, one to his son near the end of the film, before the big fight, that I had to work really hard not to go all 'Notebook' on.
You see much more of a human Rocky in this version than you did in the earlier films. He visits the grave of Adrian many times, even has a chair put in a tree for when he visits her. He tries to connect with his son, who resents his fame and shadow that he casts over him. It's a very 'real' film. Very well written. Even the 'bad guy' fighter isn't so awful in this film. He comes across very real and human too. Not a cartoon like Mr. T or Ivan Drago.
I saw this with my father and it would be impossible for anyone going into this with their dad to not feel something for the relationship between Rocky and his son. I took that speech I was talking about earlier to heart. It stays with you after the movie, even if you can't remember it word-for-word.
I'd highly recommend this new Rocky movie. You can even take your wife/girlfriend to see it. I think it's the most female-accessable since Part II. It's not just a guy movie, though guys will love it too.

3. Who's 'little Maria?' I'm a Rocky fan and don't remember that character. |

5. I thought he died in one of the sequels |
|
So I was surprised when they announced another. Perhaps the person who told me was trying to spare me a suckie couple hours.
