1. I get to work in a grocery store tomorrow
I was off today, thankfully. I'm not looking forward to it - I have a huge load of booze to get on the shelves and I have to do it when the place is full of customers because of the time they deliver. :scared:

3. Ooh! At least you'll have some booze at home when it's all over

and COOKIES!

My neighbor stopped by with a plate of baked goods -- still planning to make my own cookies tomorrow. 'Tis the season.

5. Now I'm hearing "Cookies and Booze" in my head
To the tune of "Silver and Gold" from Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer. :silly:

Probably means I've had enough booze! :hi:

10. Hey, it works.

Cookies and booze, cookies and booze
Everyone wishes for cookies and booze
How do you measure its worth
Just by the pleasure it gives here on Earth.

Cookies and booze, cookies and booze
Mean so much more when I see
Cookies and booze decorations
On every Christmas tree.

Well, almost. I'm not sure about booze on the tree. Maybe under.

2. I work in a toy store.
It was bad, but really not much worse than any other Saturday in December. Of course, we had plenty of staffing.

I feel bad for the people who have to close though, the place is a wreck and they'll likely be working well into the wee hours of the morning tidying up.

7. A toy store?
The worst brats are the toddlers, right?

They have no concept of the fact it's not THEIR giant toybox, right?

8. No way. Most of our problems come from adults.
Kids are usually being angels in the hope of getting something, or being a little cranky and overstimulated. Adults who think store policies apply to other people and they're special, who expect us to pull impossible-to-get items from thin air, adults who buy up and resell the impossible to get items (just today we had a guy going up to customers in the video game area trying to sell a PS3 at twice retail, I figure half our game systems and Elmo dolls wind up on Craigslist or ebay) people who can't be bothered to keep track of their kids (twice in the last three days somebody's left a baby under one in a cart and taken over ten minutes to notice) or to keep them home when they are sick (we mop up vomit almost every day) are a much bigger problem than any kids I've ever met.

11. Sounds about right.
I used to work in the basement of the old "Prange-Way" (long gone now) stocking shelves.

Some parents were just plain assholes. To put it mildly.

9. Grocery shopping
I went at 7:30 this morning so there were not many customers. I drove by there around noon & it was packed. People were parking at the other end of the shopping center.

13. There is a very good fruit market around here
We had to swing by and pickup some fruit for some baskets we were making. We tried to get going early but a pitstop at the inlaws lead to delays. We showed up near the store around noon. There was a line of cars on the main road leading into fruit market. That was nothing compared to the chaos inside. Fortunately we timed it right and split up. One did the bulk of the running around and the other collected items while waiting in line. It was scary but in the end harmless.

14. It was really easy shopping at the mall tonight. I took my daughter
at about 6pm and we parked far away because I though we'd never get a spot and there were TONS of spots up close. The mall was crowded inside but no real lines at checkouts.

17. I had to stop by the store on my way from work.
I needed girly things, and a few other random items. Insane. And most people were so rude and aggressive.

Talk about holiday spirit. :eyes:

20. I had to shop
Providing food obligations . . . got out when the first store OPENS, or an hour after, it turns out. Had some last minute gifty ideas and ended up being astonished at how much I spent again this year. . . . from NOT PLANNING ahead nor realizing how bad the grocery cart full of stuf adds up, expecially after the shopping basket in the store before . . .

I promised not to overextend this year; why does "The Bug" grab me at the last minute every year? Why why why?

I'm going to learn to bake. And will bake all my presents next years. Do you do it up ahead of time and freeze them, or how does that work?

21. Yes, I had to
Would you like to hear all about my drama? No? Too bad.

We drove to RI on Friday morning from Western NY. It's about a 7 hour drive (with three kids, stops, etc). Got here about 7pm. All is well and good until it is bedtime and I go to take my anti-anxiety pills, that I could have SWORN I put in my pocketbook along with my Zoloft. NOT THERE. I forgot the damn things! By now it's like 11pm. I call the on-call doctor in NY. He could call in the Zoloft script, but the anxiety meds are a controlled substance so he can't. The pharmacies around here are all closed anyway so I say forget it (asshole, in my head, very condescending) He says call the office in the morning. Which I do. They claim they can't do anything for me and that I should go to a local urgent care center since going off this particular med cold turkey is a VERY VERY VERY BAD IDEA. No SHIT, as I'm shaking like a I'm going through DT's and my heart is racing. I'm crying. Considering driving the 7 hours back home because otherwise I'm not going to make it.

My mother suggests calling the family doctor (who treats everyone in our extended family and was my doctor before I moved away 13 years ago). This absolute angel of a man calls in both prescriptions for me. Enough to stay for my visit. I was crying with relief. It just goes to show you the difference between huge medical care centers with 5 satellite offices, and one general practitioner who know the whole family, all our histories, and without the 10 million answering services you have to go through to get the help you need. I owe that Dr. so much.

Anyway, so back on the subject I had to go to the pharmacy and another local store and got some stocking stuffers I had totally forgotten about. The place was a zoo. But by then, I was feeling like a normal person again, so it was all good.

:)

22. Grocery store,
health food store and a drug store to get a vacuum cleaner (one of those drug stores that carry appliances, computers, electronics, food and clothing...).

None were particulary packed, but I chose to do it around suppertime; that may have made a difference.

I wouldn't want to have to grocery shop tomorrow. :scared:

25. Just returned
after a depressing December so far, I played Santa to myself. Got some new shoes, socks and slacks. It dawned on me later I should have gotten a new toy for myself, so I'll go to the jewelry store tomorrow.

I don't shop for presents anymore and thankfully over the years I've convinced my family not to as well.
