13. I think I love you
I adored, I loved, I'm the biggest Katharine Hepburn fan EVER! I have at leas 90% of her movies on VHS (unfortunately) trying to get them all on DVD. She is the only celebrity I ever wrote a fan letter to. I don't know why, maybe because she was everything I ever wanted to be; strong, independent, self-assured. I gave my first daughter Katharine as her middle name in her honor. I think I've seen The Philadelphia Story at least 100 times. Usually late at night, in the dark, all alone. Damn I wish I had it with me on this trip....

But I gotta agree. I don't think the newer generations can understand who and what she was in her time. She could have easily skated by on her looks. But she refused to play that card. Yeah... she was a mighty woman.

Edited on Sun Dec-24-06 02:52 AM by Radio_Lady
He was quite handsome. He died very young... I was pregnant with my son David when I heard the news.

Date of birth (location)
25 November 1926
New Orleans, Louisiana, USA

Date of death (details)
27 May 1969
Los Angeles, California, USA. (stroke)

Mini biography

Jeffrey Hunter (born in Louisiana as Henry Herman McKinnies Jr.)

(snipped)

While in Spain to film the Chicago Mafia story ¡Viva América! (1969), Hunter was injured in an on-set explosion, suffering facial lacerations from broken glass and powder burns. Later an old friend, a former British commando, accidentally hit him on the chin with a karate chop when Hunter, who knew judo, failed to defend himself in time, banging the back of his head against a door. Then, while on the plane with his wife returning to the United States, Hunter's right arm suddenly became semi-paralyzed and he lost the power of speech, two signs of a stroke. He was taken directly off the plane upon landing, to a hospital in Los Angeles. He recovered and was released after a couple of weeks. Shortly after signing to co-star with Vince Edwards in The Desperados (1969), Hunter suffered another cerebral hemorrhage while on a short flight of steps in his living room, and collapsed, injuring his head in the fall. It was not known how long he had been unconscious when he was finally found. He died, without regaining consciousness, the following day after surgery to repair the skull fracture, at age 42.

But, did any of those three guys ever play Shakespeare? Were any of them ever on stage in either London or New York. My husband says they are movie actors. Just sayin' -- theater is one of my first loves.

27. What I took from your original premise was the word 'handsome' ...
coupled with the word actor - I didn't see it qualified as 'Shakespearean'. So, as it stands now - Shakespearean stage actors - yes, I would agree that your choice is a good one.
By-the-way - love your radio lady icon. It's lovely.

Edited on Mon Dec-25-06 12:38 PM by Radio_Lady
This is the follow-on war movie (after "Flags of Our Fathers") by Clint Eastwood. It tells the story of the Japanese troops on Iwo Jima during World War II.

I've seen the movie and Ken Watanabe is just fascinating. Do sit close to the screen, because most of the dialog is in sub-titled Japanese. I can't review the film officially until it opens locally in January or February, but do try to see it. You can read many reviews on the Internet, since the movie has been showns in other places (Japanese opening was December 9th -- and by many people invited to US previews in cities such as Portland, Oregon.

21. i had no idea he had been such a doll, until he died....
I agree he's the handsomest actor ever.
i remember when Olivier died, and they showed pictures of him when he was young and gorgeous.

I saw pics of him as Heathcliff in "Wuthering Heights" and went, "Wow, what a doll!!".

I'll also vote for Gregory Peck.

James Mason.

Leslie Howard.

And Paul Newman is still looking fabulous in his old age.

Note:Mom said that in the newer decades, they didn't have as many good looking men in the movies as they did before. What happened was that more normal looking people were allowed to be leading men instead of just pretty boys. She thought there were no handsome leading men in the 90s, so I had to rent "Last of the Mohicans" and show her Daniel Day-Lewis to change her mind. She agreed that he was very nice looking.

Gawd, what is it about Englishmen???

23. These are all good.
Gregory Peck's daughter went to our school as a little kid. He'd come pick her up sometimes. All the moms knew that. They all dressed up to pick up their kids every day, hoping they'd see him.

I've loved Olivier since "Wuthering Heights." Funny enough, another version of "Wuthering Heights" featured another actor I find utterly yummy - Timothy Dalton. Sigh...

And Jeffrey Hunter wasn't bad, either. Anybody see him in "Star Trek"? He was the original captain before they settled on Shatner, and they used his pilot to make one of the most wonderful (two-part) episodes - "The Menagerie."

These days, my heart belongs mostly to Hugh Jackman.

61. It'll be my pleasure... I still have one more guest next Friday...
then you'll hear from me. Be patient -- we're going to a hotel for a couple of days over New Years, so I won't have access to my computer.

Radio Lady listens...

25. i don't think the best looking -- BUT
laurence olivier, robert deniro and marlon brando are with out a doubt the greatest actors we've seen yet.

what i LOVE about olivier is how many people don't recognize him -- yet know his movies.

that can't be said of the other two.

62. Not a fair comparison. Clooney is nice looking, granted.
But Laurence Olivier was the ultimate stage actor, and even did several astounding turns in movies.

Not to be nosey, but are you younger than 40 - 50?

If so, then you may never have seen Olivier -- or seen him as an old man.

In peace,

Radio Lady

65. Yes, I know the feeling. But I'm 67, so all the young guys...
... seem to be in the ages of my kids or stepkids (the five children range in age from 37 to 48)! I even have a stepgrandchild who turned 21 this year! Ouch!

It reminds me of this slightly salty joke:

Middle-aged woman: "I had sex with an 18 year old last night."

Friend of woman: "Tell me, how was it?"

Middle-aged woman: "Well... he didn't know what he was doing, but he could do it all night long!"

67. How about this one:
Young ladies say- "You can look all you want, but don't touch!"

Older ladies say- "You can touch all you want, but for god's sake, don't look!"

77. He's very beautiful but it's hard to hang onto the image with all that
ego or fuss or something in the way.

I think THIS is the most handsome actor that ever lived. Bar none, former or future. And, he was a comic genius. I'd rather watch him trip or stutter than watch any man do anything else.

I went to see that movie for the sole reason that
every time I would see the coming attractions, I'de fall in love with his looks.

The movie was okay, but JB was so beautiful
that I wouldn't have cared if the
movie stunk.

My brother said he'd switch teams for him.
