It's very rare that I get jealous, I did Friday night though
I went to a party at a friend's house Friday night. I haven't seen him in probably 15 years. He used to live in the area where my band was from back in the 80's, they are the same ones I play with today. This guy played drums for us for a few months back in the mid 80's when our drummer left to be in another band.

Anyway, this guy did pretty good for himself and he lived in a very nice house. He lived in LA for 13 years and moved back recently. It was good to see a lot of the people there that I haven't seen for many years. In the corner of his dining room was a Gibson J-200 and of course I picked it up and played it for a while. The guitar was a bit worn, but the sound was fabulous.

I went to the basement and asked him where he got the guitar. He got excited that I asked about it and preceded to tell me that he got it from a guy he knew while living in LA. The guy was a "prop" guy for the movies and had a lot of shit that he has gathered thru the years from various companies that would pitch their products to him.

The Gibson was used in the move "Coyote Ugly" and he said that it was just getting thrown around so he took it. He sold it to my buddy for 200 bucks. :wow:

After I heard how much he got it for, I actually felt jealous. I mean 200 friggin' bucks! WTF? I never get lucky like that..LOL.. I even told my friend I was jealous. :)

The sound on that guitar was unreal. I have the Epiphone versions of it, but now I see why you pay much more for the Gibson. He said I can use it any time to record with, so I am gonna take him up on that.

BTW, here is a still from the movie with the guitar that he owns in the shot.

1. No guitar players here?
I guess it isn't that big of a deal to people, but I forgot to mention that you can't buy this model guitar for under $3,000.

2. When I get those opportunities, I have no money and vice versa.
That's a really nice guitar though.

5. My one friend, when he was in the Navy...
Had a chance to buy a set of 4 Salvador Dali paintings. Not prints, but the real thing, for 800 bucks. He still kicks himself.

12. Yup
He said they were a set of four that were small. I would have to ask him more of the specifics, he told it to me a few times, but it's been a while. I think he said they were like 8x10s or something like that.

11. Yeah, that part was kind of cool
But my jealousy stemmed from the price...LOL.

If he would have just told me the price I would have still been blown away. The movie thing is an interesting side note though.

13. I love that guitar!
I want me a big old jumbo Gibson, and the J-200 fits the bill. I'd pay $200 for it...

My 1945 J-45 was nice, and vintage and all, but it still didn't have that booming sound, so I sold it.

Here's story for you. My older brother called me one day when I was about 22, telling me his coworker wants to sell his guitar for $100 and it's a Gibson. I told him to buy it, period. I gave my bro $100 and he brought me over an old chipboard case and when I opened it, there was a 1956 Gibson Les Paul TV yellow Special... I had it, loved it, and played it for about 15 years, including having Les Paul himself autograph it. I sold it to a collector in town here a few years back...

You can see it in this pic of my guitars, bottom center...

16. Hey Retro...
I just got my first Rick 360/12 a few months ago... I'm sooo in love with that guitar. I had to by a new Mesa Stilletto head to round out all of my guitars. There's nothing quite as good as guitar tone nirvana.
