Man, I don't know what is more horrible...being alone on Christmas, or spending Christmas Day with people I don't know. Wish I could bring DU along with me.

4. I am cooking a ten pound turkey

for myself and my dog. I am not with fighting couples or screaming children or my perpetually disappointed alcoholic mother, and I did not spend a fortune on gifts that will be quickly tossed aside.

A few cards and phone calls to the right people.

My favorite mashed potatoes, stuffing, and pumpkin pie. Afterwards a long walk in the woods with my sweet old dog (who had a brush with death in October). Maybe I am supposed to be miserable, but I am content... I have lowered my expectations for this holiday.

13. I'm back. It was sweet.

I met two 80-ish hikers from Switzerland, a hard-nosed newsrag journalist, an acupuncture doctor who knows all the demented macro people I know (we are now best friends), my friend Carol, 6'2" ex-military liberal who kicks ass, my landlady who totally rocks and a few other interesting, strange people.

So, crawling out of the black hole of my existance was beneficial today, even tho REV wasn't there to help me bombard them with....
