Radio Lady Previews: "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" on tour throughout the U.S.!
Edited on Mon Dec-25-06 04:05 PM by Radio_Lady
I'll be at opening night in Portland, Oregon, for this extravaganza! Link (below) to find out if it's coming to YOUR city or town!

THE 25th ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE
January 2-7, 2007

In the Tony Award-winning musical THE 25th ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE, six young people in the throes of puberty, overseen by grown-ups who have barely managed to escape childhood themselves, learn that winning isn't everything and that losing doesn't necessarily make you a loser.

"SPELLING BEE is riotously funny and remarkably ingenious. Gold stars all around," says The New York Times. The Wall Street Journal called SPELLING BEE, "perfect in every possible way-that rarity of rarities, a super-smart musical that is also a bona fide crowd-pleaser. An ingenious blend of simplicity and sophistication, it's not merely funny, it's wise".

All performances are held at the Keller Auditorium, SW 3rd Ave and Clay St, downtown Portland, Oregon. Tickets are available by calling the Box Office: 503-241-1802

This musical may be coming to YOUR area in 2007. Check out the completely updated tour schedule at this link:

time.

She's busy with a job and two kids.

4. I saw it on Broadway
and loved it. Unfortunately you will not be able to see Sarah Saltzberg and Celia Keenan-Bolger.

6. I'm sure the tour company will be excellent
Those actresses were the stand outs for me in the production that I saw.

Happy New Year to you. Please let us know what you and your daughter thought of the show.

7. I was one of the audience contestants on Broadway!
When it still had that red-haired guy that's on a CBS sitcom now.

8. Did you have to spell anything when you did that?
Edited on Mon Jan-01-07 01:58 PM by Radio_Lady
Maybe my daughter will want to be interviewed for those parts!

Funny thing is, I was the 8th Grade champion speller in my school! Didn't do well when I went to the Dade County, Florida, finals.

I use to remember the word I missed, but I've forgotten it now, after all these years!

I know I missed "archaic" on another run-through. I never forgot how to spell that one!

10. Yes, one word.
It escapes me at the moment, and I failed miserably. :)

13. Hi Radio_Lady!
You'll have seen the show by the time you read this; if it was even half as good as "Wicked" you'll have had a great time.

I didn't get invited to "Wicked" -- but perhaps another time???

Can't wait. Will be anxiously awaiting your review, RL. :hi:

Here's a YT link to the Tony performance. It's crappy quality, but a DU favorite makes an appearance.

19. I hope the show is a good one in-person, 'cause
its TV spots here were the worst B'way (or Off- or Off-Off-) commercials I've seen in 17 years living in NYC.

The show is unknown to me, and must be good to last and to tour. But oy, those TV ads...zero.

20. Drum, I don't recall seeing the ads when we were there in May-June.
Edited on Wed Jan-03-07 02:16 PM by Radio_Lady
Of course, we didn't watch too much TV, either.

Sorry about that. Sometimes the commercials are better than the musical play itself (but not in this case). I don't think there are local TV commercials running here in Portland (OR), but I could be wrong.

Thanks for your post.
