Natalie Portman on Daily Show -- what did her button say?
Tonight's Daily Show was a rerun, obviously. Looked to be from about two weeks ago, since the LOTR opening was covered.

Natalie Portman was the guest. She had a button on that might have said "___ for President" Did anyone catch what the button said?

24. Actually. there ARE some...
Apparently, several years ago, she and some friends vacationing on the Mediterranean rented a boat and went out to a small island where they sunbathed au naturel...not realizing that a tabloid paparazzi had managed to follow them out there...

She herself talks about the incident as an example of how she learned she had to be a lot more careful in public. I'm sure the photos are somewhere on the Internet, since virtually everything else is.

34. One of those pics is ....
.... cached in Google although it was taken down at the referenced site.

And I'm pretty sure her lawyers jump on it whenever a site is brought their attention.

I just think it's a LAUGH that it stays in the Google cache.

And FYI, I did NOT Google "'Natalie Portman' nude," I Googled "'Natalie Portman' candidate"!!

25. I think Natalie Portman's dad is Israeli
but her mom is Jewish American. She *might* have been born in Israel but was raised on Long Island, NY. Since her dad's Israeli she *can* have dual citizenship.

I don't know if kids are still required to decide when they are 18 what citizenship they want to take. There were some immigrant kids in my school and when they turned 18 they had to decide whether to take on American citizenship.

18. A view into her politics
From an interview this past summer in Washington Jewish Week.

-snip-
Graduating from Harvard this week, Portman "occasionally" has gone to Hillel and reads the Web site of the Israeli newspaper Ha'aretz "five times a day" to check for breaking news, but said she has not been that involved with pro-Israel activism on campus.

That's because she is not a big fan of politics -- which, she said, can often "group together a lot of things I don't necessarily see as being rightly grouped together."

"It's a very difficult line to tread between defending Israel, which I believe is completely just, and also promoting peace," Portman said, noting that sometimes defending Israel can simultaneously offend the other side.

The Jerusalem-born Portman said it "drives crazy" when she hears news reports that "two Palestinians and four Israelis were killed. ... It's six people, it's a tragedy for everyone."

-snip-

Noting she is looking into "different things I want to be involved with concerning Israel," she said she would like her involvement to be more from the "humanitarian angle" than the political.

She admits that trying not to be too political when supporting Israel is "complicated."

Edited on Fri Jan-02-04 03:11 PM by mvd
Anyway, both Isreal and Palestine have blame here. I give her credit for restraint when so many don't have it. No reason to think she's not cute because of her beliefs.

30. if the last two words are "for President"
Then the first one must be a name that's slightly shorter than the word "President."

Too long
--------
Moseley Braun
Lieberman (?)

Too short
---------
Dean
Kerry
Clark
*

Could be
--------
Edwards
Kucinich
Gephardt
Sharpton

On the other hand, from what some of you have posted about her politics and religion, she doesn't seem like she would be a strong supporter of any of the candidates yet.

One thing's for sure, though, it ain't Bush! Yeah, Natalie!

26. I found this link on Natalie
Natalie Portman

-Snip-

"There are a lot of people I admire. I really admire Elizabeth Glaser, the AIDS activist. And Itzhak Rabin, he was such a hero. I was born in Israel and I go there lot, all my dad's family is there. I'm not religious at all, but Israel is such a spiritual place. And people talk until they're blue in the face about moral issues and what should happen in the country. I hope there will be peace there. Israelis and Arabs are cousins, we have the same descendants. Yet there's this hatred.

It's just ridiculous that people kill other people in the name of religion. No religion advocates killing." This goes to Natalie's religious convictions, probably due to her education: "Ethically and politically, I come from a very liberal environment. It's not a Puritan family but I was raised with the idea that I must respect my life. This means I intend to live my life like a normal person and not like a celebrity."

32. According to LiberalArtists.com
She has appeared at a Gore rally and has performed for Hillary. Good for Natalie! And yes, she's one of my biggest crushes. Has been since she was almost 18 and I was in my early 20s.

It looks like a For President button - maybe Kucinich even. You never know. :-)
