Something about that film gets me in the end, and turns me into a wimpering, quivering little boy ...
Must be something in my life it connects to: father - mother - family ... goodness and badness ... living an individual, extraordinary life .... It just rips me up ....
Tim Burton is a genius ....

Love the movie. Not a big fan of Tim Burton, but he nailed this one. It hits me hard at the end, too. My old man and I hit the bars almost every Friday or Saturday night -- one or the other of the weekend nights. He's sorta larger-than-life, too. Always introducing me to people he knows, when really it should be me playing that role, as the crowd is much closer to my age and I get around a bit.
Anyway, we've been doing this for the last four years or so, and it's been a learning experience for me. Have gotten to see my old man in a new light -- not through "Big Fish" stories -- and it's taught me a lot about him and myself . . . some good, some not so good. Been a big positive overall, though. Watching "Big Fish," and embracing that whole notion of what is true and what is not true regarding a father -- it's a moving experience.
