tell me I did not break my effing ankle for Christmas/Festivus
I tell everybody I did it while carrying a big swivel chair down the stairs midnight on Christmas morning, and that I rolled my ankle and the thing fell on me and I rerolled it back the unnatural way and something popped.

But really, I was actually running into a burning building to save an old lady, a baby, and a few kittens and puppies. Yes, that is what happened. Truly.

The sad thing is I haven't been able to take my Festivus pole down yet. I think I'll just wait until after New Years.

1. It may just be a sprain.
"ICE" -- Ice. Compression. Elevation.

And stay off of it as much as you can. Use crutches for a few days if you have them.

Good luck!

14. oh, shit!!
I am SO sorry! Although sprains certainly can be as bad as fractures, and even harder to heal.

Bummer.

15. I think in this case a bad sprain would take longer
It shouldn't be too bad. Plus, I can always play the sympathy card with the girls I know, so this may have a silver lining. :)

24. ''hope it's just a sprain''
I remember saying that to my doc once and he gave me a short lecture on why sprains are often worse than breaks. Ligaments never heal back the way they were while bones can and do.

2. The Feats of Strength...
So you were actually pinned by a chair in the ritual wrestling match?

3. It may have ended up a draw
I got it off me and throw it down the steps, and now it's in the dumpster. So in the end I won, I suppose. :)

6. Then you are undisputed head of the household!
Or, did your brother have to work a double shift (one the few acceptable reasons for not participating) that night?

9. he went to Montana for the holidays
I took a winter session class that I really needed, so I stayed. Hell, I would have made him carry it if he was here. Those young punks are good for very few things, but they sure can carry stuff pretty well. :)

12. thanks
Yeah it seems to be doing a little better. I should be alright. Hell, I've had injuries much worse than this, mainly it is just painful. It should heal up fast enough, I'm sure.

4. Did you get it xrayed?
I rolled both of mine a year ago in separate incidents 6 weeks apart. Neither of them were broken but they did notice that I had previously broken one.

10. yeah, I did
tibia fracture. So, technically, I guess I have a broken leg, not ankle. :)

That is weird that you didn't even know you broke it before. You think it would have hurt bad enough for you to get it checked out then. :) I was pretty much forced to get my x-rayed. My aunt kept worrying about me hobbling around, so I just went and got it looked at. Turns out I broke it, haha.

17. oh, I'm sorry. I fell down the last few stairs at my house last
week -- and tweaked my ankle something fierce. I think I just sprained it badly. Seems to be healing, swelling down, etc. I know how painful it can be. Do take care of yourself! Be careful on stairs! And I hope it heals quickly...
