I cannot successfully download iTunes. What the hell?!?!?
I hear so much about Apple products that I thought I'd just open the box and a whole jukebox would be loaded for me (joking on that part) - but I cannot even download iTunes!

What the hell am I doing wrong? And why can't anything just go smoothly?

1. I thought you had iTunes open and your iPod charging?
Do you have a little window open that says something like 'Try again', and do you still have iTunes open?

3. I did have it open and I thought it was downloading, but
it turns out that it wasn't. I think I might have some type of firewall.

I did eject the iPod and run back home. It's plugged in again and I'm trying to download iTunes again.

It says that it can't run the file because it doesn't have a valid digital signature. I think I need to do something on my end. I get no iTunes prompts after that and still haven't seen the log on phase.

But, the iPod is back to charging.

12. LOL! I'm just trying to help.
Make sure you don't have iTunes open and try to download again from here: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

Might give you a 'save' or 'execute' option - chose the execute on and let it install. Should work.

14. I've tried that about 12 times. No luck.
I get the "Windows has a problem with this file" notice and that is all.

Gotta run for now, I'll check back. Thanks Wes.

2. Is the file extension ".dmg"?
If so, you will need to expand it in order to open it. You can do this by using StuffIt Expander for your Mac. It works on PCs, too.

7. iTunes?
When I try to download the free iTunes software, it starts to download - then I get the message that the computer doesn't want to download the file because it doesn't have a verified signature. When I click on the details of the file, it sure looks like it's from Apple.

10. Strange.
Sorry, I don't know what to do with .exe files. There's no way you can skip over it?

11. That's what I can't figure out.
The message I'm getting is more of a "notification" that it's an unknown file. It doesn't give me the option to accept or reject. It just has a "OK" button and that's it. But, there is no more evidence that anything is downloaded after that. The process just comes to a halt.

15. I worked with my new iPod Nano yesterday and had a similar problem...
...but I corrected it by rebooting my PC. I had downloaded the current version of iTunes, but it didn't work. There was no indication I needed to reboot, but I tried it and it worked fine.

I hope you get it straightened out!

17. Should I turn off my firewall to download it?
Edited on Tue Dec-26-06 08:17 PM by Scout1071
Is it possible that is automatically blocking it?

This seems to be the file it stops on:

18. UPDATE - There are tons of complaints on the iTunes message boards
from people who cannot download the iTunes 7.2.

I hope this gets resolved soon. I really don't want to take this back.

20. I can't seem to find them on their site. I'm throwing in the towel today.
And frustrated at my first Apple product experience since I was a kid.

My family are all Macs, but I've been PC because of work.

21. are you using Windows 98?
We got an ipod for my stepdaughter last year and later found out they are not compatible with windows 98. Poor little girl had to wait a couple of months to get a new computer before she could use her birthday present!
