Okay, Cinema owners, listen up... |
|
I just shelled out $24.00 for two LOTR tickets, plus $7 for some crappy popcorn AND an additional $0.75 for butter that used to be included...
So...
Why the HELL am I expected to sit through twelve (12) commercials before the movie? I timed it, and between the ads, two PSAs, and the trailers for movies (which I'll try my best to rent instead of see in your crummy money-pit), that was :18 minutes of screen time before the movie I PAID to see. That means I provided my services for :18 minutes to be the audience for time you SOLD to advertisers.
You OWE me.
Oh, I know you're cryin' the blues about how little you're earning, what with record high admission and snack costs, advertising crammed into every urinal stall and elevator car, and the same dumb-assed minimum wage highschool students helming your ship for you, but come on--you're getting money from both ends.
You OWE me.
You sold :18 minutes of my life to corporate interests, and I want them back, or suitable compensation.
In the words of CHarles Bronson: "Dis ain't ovah!"

1. i wonder why i download most of my movies nowadays.. |
|
i rent them when they come out on video, or i'll go see an exceptional film at the theater. but by and large, the whole moviegoing experience has gotten worse and worse over the years.
the vast majority of movies are hollywood drivel anyway.

2. When I lived in the UK |

Many theatres had arena seating, i.e. you bought a specific seat, and paid a different price depending on the location. Front row far right was 2 quid, whilst center front balcony was 7 quid, for example. And your seat was reserved.
And three times were listed: the time the doors opened, the time the "programme" started (previews, commercials, etc) and the time the show itself started. This was helpful, since they'd regularly run 30 minutes of programme before the film itself.
On the other hand, the commercials they'd run were very very funny, rivalling Superbowl ads in humour, so we'd often go early to catch those.
I particularly like the different pricing. I hate going to a full showing and getting stuck in a crappy seat. Actually, that doesn't happen anymore. I only go on off times, such as early Sunday showings, and will only go to cinemas with stadium seating.

3. It drives me nuts, too. |
|
I expect commercials in TV shows because I'm not paying directly to watch the show. I do not, however, want the crap pushed on me when I'm paying to be in the theater.

I LOVE movies and the whole movie-going experience. So much of it is ruined these days by greedy theater owners and dumb-ass patrons.
That being said, I don't mind previews. I like 'em. I like 'em a lot. It lets me know about other movies I may like to see. I hate the commercials, though, but I've never seen more than one (usually Pepsi) before the movie starts. The rest is previews, which I really like.

7. Only 18? That's NOTHING! |
|
I sat through 35 fucking minutes of previews before Return of the King. It's outrageous. If a movie is 3+ hours long, any theater manager with a shred of decency would limit the trailers to 2. I'll probably go back for the Hobbit, but after that, my theatergoing days are over.

8. This is why the last movie I saw in a theater was "E.T." |
|
when it first came out. Took the kids to see it (early 80's ??). Now they have kids of their own........ It's just not worth the aggravation let alone the outrageous prices...... I don't pirate any movies off the web but I can understand it.
