I should be wearing sweaters now and going snowshoeing. Instead it's raining and the stupid grass is still growing. I wonder if my mom's lawn will need to be mowed this January?

36. Are you sure that wasn't just 'comparatively' freezing?
I was freezing today and then I came in and saw that the thermometer said it was 52 degrees outside. I realized that I was just freezing because up until the past couple of days it has been in the 70's. How far south are you? We are in upstate SC.

41. Oh, no....20's is REALLY freezing, not comparatively freezing
I think you guys in the middle get more 'real' weather than we do here. Here we switch between Less Warm and Humid and Hot and Humid. That's about it. That's why we have historically really treasured our once or twice yearly three inches of snow.

42. Yeah, The Only Thing Between Here and The Rockies
is a few hills in Oklahoma, just enough to stop a lot of winter weather but you are right, we have either warm gulf moisture making us sweat in the summer, or even in the winter at times, or we have cold air from the north and west

a 'white cristmas'!

We can't turn down the heat. It's central in our building and we're on the top floor. I'm suprised spanish moss isn't growing in here!

PS

If I were back out west I'd only have January, February and March left of the gloomy weather. Here, it could be crappy until June or beyond once winter sets in. I'm thrilled to find it postponed.

Up until a couple of days ago, it was SEVENTY degrees here! We had a thunderstorm the other day, for chrissake! We live in far upstate SC, but up until the past couple of years ago we could always count on at least a few snows a year. My poor kids have almost forgotten what snow is like.

5. So much for moving to the frozen north
Mr. Laurel and I were looking forward to snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and other cool things once we moved to Maine. My parents in WV have gotten more snow than we have (which at Chez Laurel is about 0.5 inches). Apparently, we must move to Quebec to get a white *#$@ing Christmas.

Not only does our yard look like crap (it was seeded in September and there are still many bare patches), but I'm not used to having to worry about ticks in the middle of winter (and I moved here from 500 miles to the south).

11. Same here in Calgary
We had a brief cold spell in November, down to about -25 C, with lots of snow, but it's hovered around freezing since then, no more snow, what's left is a hard crust. Last winter was hardly cold at all, I didn't have to plug my car in at all (that's how we judge winters, how much we have to use the block heaters). Back in the olden days, we could count on several long cold spells every winter; I remember one time, 1969 or so, Edmonton went through the entire month of January never going above zero F. :scared: Here in Calgary it was nearly as bad, but we made it to 2 one day. We hardly ever get that cold stuff any more, I almost miss it. I don't miss it enough to move to Winnipeg, though.

17. Not to be overly PC here...
but...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roma_people#Roma_and_crime

The popular image of Roma as tramps and thieves unfit for work contributed to their widespread persecution. This belief is often cited as the etymological source of the pejorative gyp, meaning to "cheat", as in "I got gypped by a con man."

Spreading my holiday power of being a jackass. :D
