Monopoly Fans - what's your strategy for winning the game?
Probably my most favorite game of all time is Monopoly. I loved playing that game against my older brother (usually kicking his butt!) and now it's one of my favorite games to play with my nieces and nephew. BTW, those nieces & nephews got me a special edition 70th anniversary Monopoly Game (we broke it in over the holidays too).

So Monopoly fans - what is your strategy to winning the game? You buy everything in site or horde your money in favor of specific products. Are you a wheeler/dealer or do you just hope that you'll land on the 3 properties you need?

2. My nephews were finishing up a game and I was watching & also the banker
Whenever one wasn't looking I'd slip the other one a $500. I probably kept that game going another 45 minutes.

3. Buy it while you can.
And try to get the yellows and reds--most oft landed upon.

4. Yellows as in Marvin Gardens group or New York Ave. Group
I had 3 houses each on Atlantic, Ventor and Marvin Gardens and those damn kids kept ending up on Water Works, which I did not own.

I ended up losing to a 7 year old in that game - oddly enough she had Water Works

5. Actually, it's been a long time..
...now that I think about it, I think the strip between free parking and jail is most often landed on.

6. New York Avenue and Illinois are the two most landed on properties
Edited on Wed Dec-27-06 10:09 AM by LynneSin
But oddly enough the last game we played over the holidays it was Tennessee and Indiana. Ok when I come to visit next time I'll bring along my Monopoly and we'll play a few rounds

9. You could just pre-emptively invade the player who has the most cash
Think up of some lie - you'll get at least 35% of the other players actually believing you

8. Buy the railroads. They're overlooked, but oh so valuable.
Plus, there are 4 railroads. You have greater odds of landing on those than on a particular property.

11. Railroads rule - I always go for them
They're landed on so much because not only are they spreadout through the boards but there are 2 chance cards that send you to the closest railroad PLUS the Reading card.

17. Don't use the get out
of jail card late in the game.
Some times sitting in jail for three rounds can be very helpful when others own the big money parcels.

the board. Then I load them up with houses and hotels. I make a shit load of money doing this.

24. If anyone buys a property, I blow their head off.
I firmly believe that there is no difference between games and life - lose a game with me, and you fucking lose. Entirely.

Actually, I buy all the property I land on. That seems to work pretty well.

26. Certain properties are more likely to be landed on.
The orange for example, will get more "hits" then the others (people coming out of jail). Purple and red properties are also very good, particularly early in the game. The other key is to build a minimum of 3 houses on any property as quickly has possible. Three houses on each of the orange properties only sets you back $900 and look at the jump on the return when you go from 2 to 3 houses on a property.

The last time I played Star Wars Monopoly with my son, the game dragged on for three freaking hours. It was torturously montonous.

Charge protection money...they'll start paying quick when their pretty green houses start getting mysteriously burned to the ground.
