1. Click and drag them to the iPod icon on your sheet. That's one way. |

2. You can also plug your iPod in and then go to the "synchronize" function in iTunes. |
|
Edited on Wed Dec-27-06 10:43 AM by NewWaveChick1981
I set mine up to synchronize every time I plug in my iPod. That way, everything stays up to date. :D

|
Whatever is new on my computer automatically gets put on the ipod. Vary handy. So far I don't have enough music (or books) on my computer to fill the ipod. When that happens, I'll have to figure out how to load sub-sets of the stuff.

A little over 2000, but some are just chapters of audio book CD's from the public library.

Just press the magazine release button on the side, let the magazine drop out, and pop in a fresh loaded one.
No, wait, you got the iPod nano. I was thinking of the Uzi with MP3 option...
Never mind.

I didn't tell it to do that (he says in a weird psychotic at the end of his rope kind of way) so how do I erase stuff from the iPod?

20. The iTunes default setting is to sync your iPod when you plug it in |
|
In iTunes, with your iPod plugged into your computer, you can access the settings panel for both iTunes application and your specific iPod. You can have it automatically sync when you plug it in (as you learned), which means if you want to remove something from the iPod, you must either delete the song from your iTunes library or uncheck the box next to the items you don't wish to be copied to the iPod.
Alternatively, you can set your preferences to manually manage your iPod tunes, which means nothing happens when you plug it in, but while viewing your library of music, you can manually click and drag the song icons onto your iPod icon on the left side. Vice versa, you can select your iPod icon on the left, see what's on it, and select and delete songs manually.
My preference is to keep it syncing automatically, and to simply check and uncheck songs in my iTunes library as I feel the need to move or remove them from the iPod. The more songs you have, the easier that method becomes.

10. I have my iTunes set to manual |
|
After loading a CD into my iPod, I'd delete the CD off my hard drive to save space.

12. That's way too much work |
|
I just got an additional hard drive (external usb) for the itunes library. Plus, if I ever have to "reset" the ipod, I can reload all the stuff that gets lost in the "reset" process.

22. I love manually loading mine. |
|
I have to manually load my nano - or I could use a playlist to synch.
But even on my big iPod which could hold my whole collection, I still prefer to manually load.

16. next thing you have to learn: |
|
how to download music for free instead of paying itunes for it.
:hide:
well not just download for free, but rip the cd's you own onto your computer and onto your ipod. i DO buy music from bands i really like, especially more obscure artists, but i'll be damned if i'll pay money for pop music.

21. Public libraries = free music. |
|
I check 'em out a dozen at a time, depending on what's on the shelf. Not all of them rip, though, due to serial abuse.

but now I know who to go to with questions.
Here is one for you. Do I have to eject the iPod and unplug it and then replug it up to upload everything from my library (iTunes) to the iPod?

So, there is a setting in your itunes, under "ipod". Basically, you have a choice between "manual" upload and "automatic" upload. The "automatic" upload means that every time you hook your ipod up to your itunes, everything that you've added to your itunes will download into your ipod. The "manual" setting means that you choose what is imported, a song at a time.
For a 4gb ipod (which is small to me - I have a 40gb) I would suggest "manual", since eventually you're going to have a lot of stuff in your itunes and you will need to pick and choose what you want on your ipod.
For manual uploading, after you connect the ipod, the little icon for your ipod should show up in the left-hand menu. You left-click songs in your library, hold down the button, and drag them to hover over your ipod icon, then let go.
The automatic update will upload everything new in your itunes onto the ipod, so yeah, ejecting it and reattaching it will update it.
I hope that answers your question. ?

I have it synced so I do the unplug thing. I really should do the manual but for right now I will stick with what I got.
I have decided to limit myself to buying gift cards otherwise I could either go way overboard buying songs or get to cautious and not buy something I should-with a gift card I can watch it count down.
I've downloaded 50 just today and I haven't even started with my CDs yet.
