Insomniacs check in
I hate insomnia. It's been a problem for years. Most nights I nod off by 12:30 but here it is, 1:07 a.m. and I'm basically wide awake. I even took my sleepy-time medicine. Didn't do a thing. I think it's time to creep down the stairs and hit the booze.

1. The world's #1 Insomniac is right here....
I haven't been able to fall asleep for the last 2 years until at least five or six AM, and I have responsibilities at 8 am on most days. Right now, it's 3:10 am and I am still wide awake.

4. I gotcha both beat
19 years ago I went 20 straight days with no sleep (whole thread on that some day). Near-death and metabolic shock ensued, took about 3 years to get back to "normal", but normal included the need for presciption sleep aids every night since, and I'm rarely able to be asleep before 5-6 a.m. Re-adjusted my life and don't fight it, I'm fine except for bushCorp.

Misery loves company? Your brother in insomnia.

9. Yikes!
The longest I've gone without sleep is three days, and by the third day I was hallucinating.

Usually my medicine does the trick -- I took it at midnight and most nights I'm off to la-la land by 12:30 - 12:45. Not tonight for some reason. It's like I feel tired but don't feel sleepy.

I know I shouldn't have alcohol and am fighting the temptation. A Mike's hard lemonade sounds really good right now.

10. Yea, you do have me beat...
the longest I've ever stayed up at one time was for five days-and that's when I was spanked up on acid. Horrible stuff.

2. Scott
Scott, did you ever work at a college in San Francisco? Just curious, the name is familiar.

6. Sorry
Although Scott Smith is very familiar, when you add in my middle name, Cecil, it really separates me from the other Scott C. Smiths of the world.

But no, I did not work at a college in SF. I wish I had because then I could say "Scott C. Smith, PhD" which has a nice ring to it.

I do, however, hold the title of "reverend" thanks to the Universal Life Church. But, being Jewish, I think I would confuse people so I don't use the title.

5. Present and accounted for...........
Listening to Ray Taliafero on KGO, watching the Russian River rise higher and higher. Two days ago the cats were hip-mo-tized watching the ducks swimming in our back yard. I'm packing books and stuff in case I have to get the hell out of here.

11. Rarely get to bed before 4:00 a.m.
Been this way since high school. Don't feel particularly tired -- if I get in bed, I just read until 5:00 a.m. or so. Reading actually stimulates my mind, so it has no soporific effect.

The other thing is, I actually feel my best in the wee hours -- starting around 11:00 p.m., my mood is generally peaceful and contented. Tough to put an end to that by trying in vain to get to sleep.

Cheers to all fellow night owls -- :toast:

13. Rezmutt - I'm with you
My most productive and peaceful hours are from around 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., especially in the last 3 years. This may sound crazy, but I believe it has something to do with knowing that bushCorp and associated criminals will not be actively destroying the planet during those hours - gives me some degree of calm.

16. I sleep..............
in 2 hour shifts. For the life of me, I cannot sleep longer than 2 hours at any one time. It makes for a very screwed up day. All this due to chronic back pain, and no, there isn't anything anyone can do. I've been to every clinic under the sun and taken every medication known to man. When the back alarm goes off, I'm up.
