Poll question: An Ethics Question
I finally got my copy of Ron Suskind's "The One-Percent Doctrine" from the public library after being on a waiting list FOREVER. I'm halfway through it (the holidays and a new baby at home slowed me down). I can't renew it because there's a huge waiting list behind me.

Do I finish it, or return it on the due date (tomorrow) so the next guy in line can have a go at it?

1. I say stay up tonight and finish it.
Make a pot of joe or whatever caffeinated brew that suits you and finish it....and if the baby cries, you can read parts of it to lull the little one back to sleep!

4. Return it on time.
It isn't the next person's fault that you couldn't find the time. Keeping books late is why you were on a waiting list for so long, so don't be one of those jerks that made you wait so long in the first place.

12. Finish it.
Consider it your donation to the library, which provides you with such excellent free education and entertainment.

At least, that's what I always console myself with when I forget to take something back on time, and have to pay fines. It's a donation in support of the library. :)

14. so you're not concerned with those in line behind me?
i'm less worried about the fees than i am about being "that guy" who holds up the line, even if it's a completely anonymous line.

the things i choose to worry about...

17. They've waited this long...
...so another day or three won't kill them. :)

I'm on a library waiting list too. Honestly, I won't know the difference if the person right ahead of me keeps the DVD an extra few days. Have got plenty to keep me busy. And even if I did care, I've got no way of finding out who the culprit was, so you're perfectly safe from retaliation. ;)

18. Take it back on time damnit
Little stuff like this is what turns people into republicans. What's next? Insider trading? Take it back and feel all good about yourself. Now that you have been sufficiently chastised, let me reward you:

for cheap. No binding though and some of the pages are miscopied

Actually I am on page 80 or so. It is very good. I am reading that because "Fiasco" was on the waiting list, all 7 copies.

23. how is that book? does it deal more with the runup to war?
I'm reading Fiasco right now and it does some work on the runup, but the entire book is not dedicated to that subject alone.

24. i'm about halfway through, and so far...
it's been more about the conflict bewteen CIA and FBI over how to approach the "war on terror". I'm just now getting into Iraq. It's a fascinating read. Highly recommended.
