x(

needed ALL new plywood on the main roof. i don't know what 44 sheets of plywood cost but i'll find out tomorrow I guess.

set them back a bit so they will have to come back and finish up tomorrow. most of the new roof is done and they re-leaded the chimney and got everything water-tight for the night.

lost 2 bulbs in the office light, one in the kitchen and another in the livingroom due to vibration.

i don't DARE look up in the attic to start THAT cleanup

i don't think i have EVER been this stressed in my LIFE!

yeah, our 130+ year old house is 'charming' but I.WILL.NEVER.DO.THIS.AGAIN!

x(

*sweet amber scotch ... oh how i adore thee*

3. he TRIED the mahogany trick with me
said mahogany was the ONLY surface to use. I didn't believe him after he put that up over the front door and then showed me the stain color-choices before they started with the shingles.

i said, "You know what? I am not sure I BELIEVE you when you tell me this will last 4,000 years!"

i IMMEDIATELY had him switch to plywood for the rest of the house x(

Now if only I could win the lotto we'd both be set.

Until then, vicarious scotch drinking will get me through.

10. i don't know why this fucked with my gut so much
have been a wreck all day. i guess it was the destruction i witnessed first thing this morning. once they start tearing out the ROOF of your house, well..... guess i've freaked a little. they are doing a great job (and i'm sure my repuke neighbors LOVE the extra 'ethnicity' in the neighborhood) :D so THAT is a total bonus!

11. When we turned the attic into an office a couple of years ago, I
drove down my street to see the contractor sawing a pretty large hole in my siding.

Got out of the van and promptly vomited on the driveway. It was so nervewracking to see the destruction that takes place prior to the reconstruction.

And when we did the sunroom? Shit. I had to leave town. I'm still not sure what's under that floor.

12. leaving town sounds good right now
i had to leave for work this morning and thought that was good as destruction had started. thought that would be better. but then i didn't KNOW what was happening and it was MUCH worse! then he called and told me about the plywood.

and I left work early.

and the noise was HORRIBLE.

and ......

aw fuck. Mrs Matcom is late getting home with more scotch

20. Been there
It's not just the total area that racks up the cost, or the materials. It is also the number of peaks and valleys on the roof line. My house is an 1880 with a high peaked roof and a bunch of dormers. Had leaks all over the place when we moved in. The prior owners PAINTED over the water stains.

Won't say how much it cost to repair, 'cause this isn't a contest, but let me just say I feel your pain.
