What time were you up with kids Christmas morning? |
|
I did the stockings before I went to bed and put out the presents from Santa under the tree late Christmas Eve, with explicit instructions that the kids were not to come out of their rooms or Santa would not bring them anything. The cat woke me up at 3 a.m. and I got up to let him out and stretched out on the sofa in the living room to admire the tree. A couple of minutes later, I heard my son's footsteps on the stairs. He was so ready to go!
We watched movies, baked a banana bread, and got a nice breakfast going until he could wait no longer and he woke my husband and daughter up at 6 a.m.
The first present my son went for were the ones for me and his Dad. He was just so incredibly excited! I will remember his excitement for the rest of my years. He wasn't interested in what he was going to get, but what he had bought for his Mom and Dad.
BTW, he will be 18 in February. God I love this kid! He bought me a wonderful bathrobe from Target and some chocolate and Flight Simulator for his Dad, gifts he had bought with his own money. Our gifts to him paled in his enthusiasm for the ones he had bought for us. Best Christmas ever for me as a Mom.

Lelapin can sleep for days. (And she *is* 19)
:)
I miss those days of getting up before dawn when she was little.

We are a family of night-owls. Even when my kids were tots, they didn't get up before 9:00 or so.
We take our time unwrapping, too. With lots of hugs, kisses and "Thank you."
Glad you had such a nice Christmas! :hi:

We told them no earlier than seven and were awakened right on the hour.

8. When I was a kid, I'd have said the same thing. |
|
I remember getting up at four or five and feeling like I'd slept too long. I have lovely, pliable children. If I told them noon, they would have waited until noon. An odd bunch.

4. My son wanted to go downstairs at 2AM |
|
:eyes:
I forced him back upstairs where he graciously let us sleep until 6AM. I'm still tired.

I woke up at about eight and found them sitting politely across the room from their stockings, waiting for me to get up.
NoelMN wouldn't let SophieMN go wake me up, so they just sat there. waiting. For (reportedly) over an hour. I was fully expecting them to wake me up as soon as they got up. That's what I always did, when I was a kid.

We started opening presents at 9:30. Hey, what can I say? We're a bunch of nightowls. When I was little my parents usually had to drag *me* out of bed, though it did always take me forever to fall asleep on X-mas Eve, at which I would cry because I was afraid that Santa wasn't coming.

10. I miss getting up with the kids |
|
On the one hand, it's nice to just sleep till I wake up with no urgency (especially after working my tail off all week in a grocery store) but I really loved the excitement of the kids.
Your son sounds like a great kid. My 19 year old called me on Christmas Eve (he lives in Virginia with his dad) - I was planning on calling him Christmas day but the fact that he took the initiative really meant a lot to me. He was so pleased with the gift I got him (a digital camera and printer dock) that he had to call and thank me. Made my entire year. :)
