3. Try putting them in the microwave for about 30 seconds
I think Matcom said that worked for him.

6. How well does your parot handle the cold?
I had always heard that a lot of tropical birds are very intolerant of the cold and easily get sick.

It's a beautiful bird.

7. Depends on the breed
We have a Quaker parrot, also called Monks and they are very hardy. This article was in the post just today.

Parrots Have Colonized the Wilds of Brooklyn

They are the wild parrots of Brooklyn, these emerald-feathered yakkers with the wisenheimer sense of humor. Thought to be long-ago escapees from a container at John F. Kennedy International Airport, their ranks replenished by unauthorized releases from pet shops, the parakeets -- originally from Argentina -- have become accomplished city dwellers. There is a parrot colony along the Hudson River cliffs in New Jersey and another bunch that prefers Pelham Bay Park in the Bronx. Of late, two arrivistes have taken up residency on an apartment ledge on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.

There is a flock of them in Rehobeth Beach DE too.

8. Cold is not a problem if they are acclimated to it,. Down to around freezing anyway.
The trick is to make sure they aren't in a draft - even at 70 a draft will kill them.

I have some neighbors that raise them outdoors all year. Watson is fairly tolerant - this house if freezing, but he was more irritated by the falling snow swirling around his head. I brought him back in after he ate a little - I try to feed him his seeds and nuts outside because he is such a slob - and he prefers to be out as soon as it gets light! He can have his fruit inside as it is easier to clean and doesn't leave oils stains on the floor, although the walls are flecked with dried bits of it!

11. He is the boss of this whole house!
He pretty much does whatEVER he wants. He rarely flies, but sometimes he climbs up in one of his trees and gets on the electical line! That is when we tend to freak out - I have a big long piece of 1.25 inch PVC pipe that we use to get him down. Those days are when you begin to wonder about taxidermy!

9. That's not a good climate for a tropical creature...
:scared:

I won't let my parrot outdoors when it's below 80. (or at all, if I get lost in a big city, my parrot would be done for.)
