Dog Pictures. Let's see 'em!
Here's Obie, apparently a lab/pit mix, in a quiet moment among all the barkage that's occupied him for the past half-hour:

He's stirring up the other doglets, who can't see what the fuss is about. Here are today's interlopers:

that can herd anything, including cats, but is afraid of the wind. It has been blowing a storm here and the poor girl won't be able to sleep until it ends (reports say the winds end tomorrow).

72. My last dog, Billie Girl, was a Blue Heeler mix, but Sally is mostly...
a McNab Border collie with Merle Heeler markings and head. She was a rescue dog and we don't know her true background, but we live in Northern California sheep country and have grown to recognize McNab features in other working dogs. Like all McNabs, she is very light on her feet, and her coat is well suited to the California climate. Until we buy her a band of sheep, she will have to settle for mastering the dynamics of ricocheting tennis balls.

57. Good for them! My neighbors have a herding dog - he's sweet but SO misbehaved,
and I attribute it to the fact that he has no work to do. He's a city dog, with no training or discipline whatsoever. So he's always jumping up on people, and trying to herd the neighborhood kids and dogs.

69. We have two cattle dogs and have fostered several
A job for a herding dog is anything that keeps them happy. Our oldest played frisbee every day for 10 years then had to retire due to partially torn ACLs and now he just chases his tennis balls. Agility and flyball are also great jobs for herding dogs. They don't need to herd, they just need something to focus on.

60. She is all lapdog!
Her breed is bred for work and show. In fact, the military prefer Belgians over German Shepherds, but she just didn't want to do the work. She much preferred the love. She is very docile. We had a previous one, her half-sister, who wanted to work, protect and bite. Her bite drive was tremendous. The only reason we had her was because she suffered an accident and broke her back. Texas A&M vets put her back together but she had a limp so she couldn't show. The breeder gave that one to us. The reason we have Larkspur is because she just refused to show. She is too much a lapdog and submissive. We love her for that.

More info is here: http://www.american-belgian-malinois-club.org/

They are a wonderful breed! I highly recommend them if you do not have kids unless you can find one like our Larkpsur. :)

30. Miz Lila

She's a maybe 5 year old black lab rescue (just got her this spring, the shelter thinks she was about five and, judging by her teeth but still youthful demeanor, I think that's about right). She was found as a stray, she was already fixed, VERY housebroken, overweight, but she has allergies which lead to her getting an ear hematoma (due to scratching and shaking). I'm wondering if her previous owners just couldn't afford the surgery and left her somewhere, as I can see NO other reason for this dog to be found as a stray (she NEVER takes off, she won't even set foot off the yard without being on her leash). How have we dealt with the allergies? 2 benadryl a day and viola! Allergies well under control. She is just as sweet as she looks.

31. Wow, 2 Benadryl a day
My old Blue Heeler 'Billie Girl' suffered from ear hematomas most of her adult life, yet we never knew the cause. Our vet just drained the bad ones, but was at a loss to explain why she got them. Her life could have been a lot better had we known about Benadryl. Filed away for future use.

Rescue dogs are the best, but I guess you already knew that. Miz Lila is a keeper.

34. I'm a vet tech
And suffer from terrible allergies myself, and I noticed that, on bad days for me, she would be scratching her ears and biting her feet, sneezing, and have lots of "eye boogers". I've attended several continuing education seminars on dermatitis and allergies in dogs so, when I brought it up to a vet at work, her recommended trying benadryl for a couple days to see if it helped. It was like a miracle, she stopped everything and was just so much more comfortable (the ear scratching was near constant, and she would just start crying but couldn't stop the scratching).

I used to have a golden retriever who developed an ear hematoma and, after his surgery (he needed the "quilt stitching", as it kept recurring) his vet dx'd a BAD flea allergy. Getting him on advantage when it came out was the best thing in the world for him.

I swear, if I ever left cancer research, I'd go to work with a dermatology/allergy specialist!!

Angel, Buddy and their pups Larry & Curly.

Moe.

PeeDee, she is Angel & Buddy’s pup from a previous litter. She is also Moe’s mom.

I adopted Buddy, Angel & PeeDee when my neighbors house burned down and they couldn’t take the dogs with them. The dogs were going to go to the pound and I couldn’t let that happen. I went from no dogs to three. Then, about two weeks later both the girls had pups. I kept all that survived. I had them ALL fixed soon after.

64. We're not sure what all she is.
The vet says she's at least part blue heeler. I think she is also part coyote by the look of her ears, nose, and the way she carries her tail. But the husband doesn't think so.

She definitely likes to chase all the birds and assorted critters we have out here. Between the both of them, we end up with more dead critters and old cow bones in our front yard.

my brother's dog is a mixed breed too with some shepherd. He says she's a Mexican Shepherd (we're hispanic and plan to get a boat christened the Mexican Armada).

We have two ACDs and have fostered a few. The ears are very cattle dog and the white spot on her forehead is called a Bentley after an old time cattle dog breeder in Australia.

Here are our buddies:

Petey, 11-year old heeler.

Tillie, a 4-yr old heeler who, like most graduates was drunk at her graduation ceremony.

Crystal, 5-yr old pointer.

Asta, 11-yr old Swedish Cattle Dog (Valhund) with my parents' heeler/australian shepherd cross, Jessie (the white one)

and last but not least, the sweetest 90-pound dog in the world, Porkchop (11-yr old lab mix)

71. The rest of my crew, since I started this thread.

Sparky is a stray. Someone broke into our porch in '94 and left her.

Sadie is a stray, too, and obviously pure ACD.

Sylvie is a mutt who was dropped off at the pound.

This is Angel, adopted while pregnant. She hooked up with a beagle type of mutt and this is one of their pups.

82. I wasn't going to post, BUT our dogs share names Orsino!
Both of mine are rescues, however the vet agrees they are probably pure border collie.

Toby (who we call Obie, or Obey-o)

And his sister Sadie
