Thundersnow in latest volley of CO bliztacular.
Edited on Thu Dec-28-06 10:45 PM by originalpckelly
Yep, thundersnow out in the foothills of Colorado. Isn't that lovely?

Oh yeah, we're getting bands just like in a frickin hurricane, only it's frickin snow! Oh and guess what, it frickin rained earlier this afternoon!

And this snow we're getting this time is heavy snow, which means it's going to be really hard to shovel. It's full of moisture!

HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?

2. Denver, but I just heard 9News report on the thundersnow...
and they asked for pictures of the lightning if people could get them.

Its only in the foothills, however

11. I didn't know there was lightning...
although I was surprised about the rain.

Yes, shoveling tomorrow will be a bear. I can't wait for the exercise, however. I haven't been to the gym in two weeks!

9. We've had it down here a couple of times this year...
but it is unusual.

But then, so are back-to-back blizzards.

6. We've experienced thunder snow in western NY
when the lake snow bands set up off of Lake Erie. We call them snow squalls and if they are severe enough there is thunder and lightening. But, you guys have no great lakes to generate this strange phenomenon. Very, very strange weather. For us, so far, it's the winter that wasn't.

7. On the other side of the storm out in Nevada/California, winds up to 185 MPH!!!!!!!!!
That's the same wind as an F3 tornado. Thank GOD it was just a gust!

Sounds like the jet stream dipped to the surface or something, because the jet stream winds in that location are about the same speed.
