Feeling a little sad just now.
Just helped my brother through a seizure.

He is a grown man but tonight he was my baby brother. It is difficult to see someone you love in such a helpless and frightening position. I was flooded with thoughts about the struggles he will face in his life as a result. My other brother stopped by to check on him and said, "if i could take this from you i would." That is it. You simply cannot fight some monsters, no matter how much you might want to. You body fills with a strength you never knew possible and there is no where to expel it. There is nothing to battle with. So you wait for it to pass. It does and you are left shaking in the wake of it. Sad, so very sad...and helpless.

I am not used to this feeling. When adversity strikes i find a way to fix it or cope with it. I cannot do either. It is not my situation to deal with. All i can do is be there. Hold, comfort and love. And wait.

A  to anyone dealing with life's adversities. And a  to those who love them.

5. He started having them when he was in the Air Force in 2002.
No Dr. has been able to come up with a cause. (he has no disorder and no brain damage) I have been shuffling through his medical paperwork for a few days to see if he had received Rumsfeld's vaccines. Not sure what is happening yet.

Thank you.

11. Damn, That Sucks!
Seizures are scary. Most of the time they are fairly benign in the overall scheme of things, but they need to be controlled because uncontrolled seizures can worsen.

It sounds terrible to find seizures without an etiology. If he did receive vaccines, and he probably did, is there any precedent for compensation or care because of that? Or are we back to the denial age of agent orange and gulf war syndrome.

The military sucks when it comes to taking care of it's own after they have problems

I'll send good vibes to you and your brother and family.

31. Good idea searching those shot records....
...there is a chance, especially if he went to the M.E., that he is having a reaction to something he was vaccinated with. Many feel that Executive Order 13139 has been misused. It was supposed to grant our military a flexibility when it came to giving inoculations of untested drugs should a need arise. (Which was President Clinton's reasons for signing that EO.). Some feel that order has been misused by the bush admin because of their close ties to the the pharmaceutical industry...especially pappy bush with his known connections to Eli-Lilly(sp?).

I have an adopted step-son who swears his nightmare life of chronic insomnia was started directly after being given those inoculations just prior to his ship being sent over to the first Gulf War. He has not been successful at all in combating his problem which has been a direct influence in turning him into an alcoholic. He claims he has to drink himself to sleep at this point. (We are talking between 10-15+ beers EVERY night, he sits down and drinks one after the other until he passes out!). When he went to the VA Hospital the bastard doctor he had prescribed him with extra strength sleeping pills-even though he knew that his patient was a severe alcoholic! This resulted in my step-kid going on a blacked out rampage that wound him up in a mental ward for a couple of weeks. The civilian doctors he saw there all agreed that those sleeping pills prescribed to anyone with severe alcoholism was absolutely the WRONG thing to do...DUH.

How many more of our vet's out there are manifesting problems that modern medicine is struggling to figure out the causes of? My signature line below, www.beyondtrason.com is where I have gotten some of the info I spoke of in the top paragraph. This DVD is free to all vets. It deals with the history of those inoculations as well as depleted uranium poisoning and it gives links to groups who are working on the problems.

I can not possibly know what is going on with your brother of course but every time I hear the words "vet" mentioned in the same sentence with "mysterious" ailments which doctors can not seem to find a cause for, I immediately suspect the myriad of mystery ailments which fall under the umbrella name of "Gulf War Syndrome". Contrary to what the government would have you believe, it is not necessarily a mental disorder brought on by the stress of combat. That is but one of MANY aspect of it. Good Luck... My best wishes to you and your brother in this.

33. Apparently, they were stopped temporarily in 2002.
Edited on Fri Dec-29-06 09:05 AM by FedUpWithIt All
but it was during his first month in boot camp. We don't know if he arrived before or after this. When they discovered he was getting seizures they also discovered a previously unknown thyroid problem as well. Both are possible side affects.

I had written about this last week in GD and received contact info. I have been working on getting through a daunting amount of paper work so i can communicate what i do know.

Past attempts by us to get info from the military were unsuccessful but thankfully my uncle had warned him prior to joining to make sure he kept EVERYTHING.

I am VERY sorry about your step son. It is frustrating to even think that people would knowingly do harm to otherwise healthy young people.

19. Four excellent words. We should all remember them. That formula can apply to
So many different situations...I beleive I'm going to write them on a post-it note and stick it on my monitor, the phrase is THAT good. I'll remember it, and I'll do it when Mrs R or one of the kids needs it.

Only four words, but so profound. Damn.

7. A tough situation to deal with, indeed. When you CAN do something to help, even if it's
difficult, at least you CAN do it, and you don't mind the difficulty. Especially with family.

But when you CAN'T? That's the hardest of all.

And I believe your other brother was telling the truth when he said "if I could take this from you I would." Mrs R has said that to me about my physical pain, and I believe her, and I've told her that about her PTSD from having been abused as a child. And I KNOW that I'm telling the truth.

Your brother is damn lucky to have you and your other brother.

Good family relationship, right there. Hang on to it, please.

And wish your epileptic brother the best from me, OK?

18. This is very tough
Tough for him, tough for you...and the feeling helplessness, and of being perplexed in not being able to have the doctor's figure it out, is even more tough.

This sounds so like what happened with my best friend, Mike. A Navy guy who went on to be an air traffic controller, first at Denver, then at SeaTac.

I don't want to go into details here, but if you want to know more, please PM me.

All I can give you here is

I have spoken to a couple people who have had similar happen. ;) Honestly, for myself that is the part that gets me the most. If it is something that was SO unnecessary that caused them....well it just makes me angry.

Yes, we did do all we could. For us, it was the Dr's who refused to listen to us until it was too late.

I read up thread that no one knows why your brother is having seizures. I think that makes it even more frustrating..when Dr's can't tell you why something is happening.

Keep up the research. Sometimes it takes us to help the Dr's out.
