When's the best time/day to go to the DMV (aka "Sec'y of State" in Illinois)? |
|
I just stopped in one this morning to ask about a motorcycle learner permit and it was a zoo. They clearly wanted me to take my dumbass questions and beat it.

1. In my area, the best time to hit the DMV is the minute they open. |
|
Lunch and after work, NO WAY.

2. Exactly. I'm usually standing outside the door before they open up. Although the last time |
|
I went, the DMV was pretty efficient at moving people through, shockingly so.

3. Can't you just call the 800 number out of Springfield and ask over the phone? |

4. It depends on which one you go to in my experience |
|
I see you're in Elk Grove. For me, the Naperville or Lombard DMV's are NEVER quiet - I fully expect to wait at least 3 hours to get anything done.
The Aurora DMV on Indian Trail however never has a line. Ever. I always walk right up to the window.
Location, location, location....

5. Went to Schaumburg today, which used to be in & out. |
|
I'm familiar with Lombard and Niles and normally they're busier than Schaumburg, which is too bad because they've both got that post-apocalyptic ambiance I so enjoy. And if I go any closer to Chicago I need to remember to bring lots of 20s.

6. Libertyville is pretty quick, but that's probably too far to go. n/t |
