My employer shorted me by quite a few hours on my last check.

I'm going to go over my pay stubs and records of hours worked (luckily, it'll be easy to verify that I was there when I said I was, because I work a register and there will be transactions in my name for those hours) and see if there are any other issues. I kinda suspect there are.

Once I have that done, should I go to one of the managers at my location, or should I assume they don't have my best interests at heart and go to corporate? If it was only an hour or two I'd just go to a manager, but this amounts to about half of the hours I worked in the pay period I just got paid for which makes me think it might not be a bad idea to go up the ladder.

ThinkBlue1966 got shorted about 15 hours, and got shorted on her pay rate for another 8 hours. They've already agreed to fix the error, but we won't get that money until next week, when it's added to her next paycheck. This week, we're SOL. We were left with $20 to buy groceries for a week. Start with your boss - likely it was a simple mistake. If it wasn't, and it was malicious, then you can go over his head.

But imagine what kind of dumbass shrew bitch you'd look like if you immediately went to the top a'rantin' and a'ravin', only to find out it was a simple mistake made by your boss, a computer, or even your own handwriting when you submitted your hours (or whatever could possibly go wrong in whatever system you use).

It happens - every now and again it happened to me, and never for any reason of maliciousness.

By law an employer is required to retain a record of your timecards (or whatever measure is used to record your work hours). You can request copies of them going back at least a year iirc.

Just tell them the problem and request copies of those records.

Corporations, for all their faults, rarely try and cheat workers out of their retail wage. It was most likely a simple mistake. Start with the person you normally report to, and work your way up from there.
