Best obscure/lesser-known Elton John song?
Compiling a Kazaa Lite-sourced collection of his work, and have a ton of his stuff, but I'm always open to suggestions.

Thus far, I've found:

"I Feel Like a Bullet (in the Gun of Robert Ford)"
"Ticking"
"Amoreena"
"Susie (Dramas)"
"Grow Some Funk of Your Own"
"Mona Lisa and the Mad Hatters"

Any suggestions?

1. Amoreena is a cool tune
I'm in a band and we do a punk-country cover version of it...nice changes.

2. Does Skyline Pigeon count?
I really don't know anything about the popularity of his songs except from the liner notes.

Others that might be popular or might not:
Grey Seal
Durban Deep
(Gotta Get A) Meal Ticket
Goodbye Yellow Brick Road

7. Skyline Pigeon was a critical milestone in his and Taupin's songwriting
From Allmusic:

In the liner notes to the Rare Masters (1992) compilation, Taupin fondly recalls “Skyline Pigeon” as “a landmark as far as our writing was concerned.” The strong melodic and lyrical nature of the tune foreshadows similar tones on tracks such as “The King Must Die”, “Border Song” and the haunting “Funeral For A Friend” instrumental prelude to “Love Lies Bleeding”

4. "Amoreena" is my favorite lesser known, too.
No sexual imagery in that song. nosireebob.

Tumbleweed Connection is my favorite country album.

Killer guitar riff and interesting lyrics. I don't know but gays may find some of the lyrics offensive.

I think that's one of his lesser known songs... one of my favs... I have to admit that my Elton John knowledge is limited though.

9. "Love Lies Bleeding."
My band does a cover of this tune in a punk style.

Also:

"All the Young Girls Love Alice"
"Razor Face"
"My Father's Gun"
"Amy"

I love EJ. Early EJ. (pre-comeback, mid-seventies...)

11. That was indeed his absolute best period
Tumbleweed Connection, Don't Shoot Me...., Honky Chateau, Caribou, Rock of the Westies, Yellowbrick Road and the incredible Captain Fantastic were simply, IMO, his best work. Ever.

That, and his band freakin' smoked.

"My Father's Gun"? I'll have to search for that one.

15. It's on Tumbleweed Connection...
Yep, Dee Murray, Nigel Olsson: great band.

I think Blue Moves is my cut-off point with Elton, and even Rock of the Westies is marginal.

19. True. Rock of the Westies had two great songs, and then imploded
"I Feel Like a Bullet (in the Gun of Robert Ford)" and " Grow Some Funk of Your Own" are two of his best works, but the rest of the album is pretty much a smoke signal to anyone listening that said "Hey, I'm going to do a LOT of coke for the next 15 years and make some really suckass music. You don't mind, do you?"

24. Just say no, Elton. Really.
Cocaine: the drug responsible for making Black Sabbath, the Allman Brothers, Elton John, and thousands of others think that their excrement was genius.

23. And "Funeral for a Friend"
I know this is going to sound weird but a friend and I had just left another friend's wake and this came on the radio. It was freaky!

I find these two songs very moving. I adore the whole "Yellow Brick Road" album. I should get it on CD.
