So now you have to take off your shoes to go see a concert?!?!?! |
|
I went to go see the Violent Femmes last night, and security was making people take off their shoes! Plus, we were felt up more thoroughly than ever, and everyone had to show id, regardless of drinking age.
:wtf:
Looks like I won't be going to any more live concerts, if this is the new paradigm.
I refused to buy anything at the venue, I wasn't going to give them any more of my money.
The Femmes were fantastic, though.

1. I took my teen aged daughter |
|
to see Styx Thursday night and we were searched as if being arrested. They also segregated minors to one side, which was already overcrowded. The Pageant in St. Louis sucks.

6. A few months ago, a friend and I went to see the Dresden Dolls... |
|
at the Vic here in Chicago. I was searched the same way...as if I were being arrested. Kind of sad.

3. I've never had that happen to me. |
|
But I've only been to a couple of shows in the last few months.

4. Back in the 60s in Britain |

they made skins take their laces out of the boots, and then finally their shoes off at football matches

5. Ah, the Violent Femmes ROCK! |
|
I saw them twice in 1995. At one of the shows Brian took a minute between songs to talk to a girl standing up near the stage. She was standing near me and looked to be about my age (20 at the time).
She was apparently wearing their very first T-shirt design and he asked where she got it.
She said, "My mom." and I thought Brian was going to leave the stage, he looked so downtrodden.
I guess one shouldn't ask questions they don't want the answer to.

7. LOL! The crowd was an interesting mix of young and "old". |
|
By old I mean my generation - the Xers.
I'm glad people your age are taking an interest in the Femmes & other bands from the 80s. A lot of it is great music that trancends time. Plus, I hear a lot of those sounds resurfacing in the alternative music that is coming out now.
I find it interesting to see all the younger people at these concerts. I never would have DREAMED of going to see bands from the 60s or 70s when I was a teenager (unless they were the Ramones or others of the first wave of punks and post-punks).

8. Alright, I'm an X-er too |
|
and I'm not sure how I feel about being called both young and old at the same time :) Though I guess 32 is right in the middle of young and old :)
I've been a Femmes fan since I was a teenager - there is just no way to avoid how much ass they kick.
The crowd in 1995 was about the same, a mix of those ranging in age from 15 to late 30's, and it seemed that I was in about the average age group of the crowd at the time.
The Femmes are timeless, and their music will always be popular with young and old alike.

9. Reading is fundamental, and apparently I can't do it. |
|
Either that or I've become too senile to realize that 1995 was 10 years ago already!!!
:dunce:
Where did all the years go?!?!?!
