Introducing the Invisible Cat!
On Thursday my wife brought the cat her friend gave her home.

We brought the cat into the house at 4:30pm. It's a real pretty solid-black cat with gold eyes. Nice and tight--I petted her right after I opened the carrier, and didn't feel any bones or signs of old age.

At 4:35 we opened the cat carrier

At 4:37 the cat disappeared. I haven't seen it since.

I know it eats, shits, drinks water, all that--the food dish is half-empty every day and this cat is the only one who has access to it, same with the water, and the cat box is used every day...and I can hear her meowing, purring, making all the sounds a normal cat makes.

3. I brought a cat
home from the shelter. It took off up stairs as soon as I let her out of the carrier. This was on a Monday morning. She did not reappear until that Thursday night---ready to be petted and welcomed into the family. Give her time. Cats are social animals.

5. Not unusual
When I brought my cat home from the foster's house, hewas very shy and hid under the bed or other furniture for three days. As I type this he is snoozing peacefully next to my keyboard. Your cat will come around.

9. Make sure cat doesn't get outside for at least 2 weeks.
Seems to help them get a sense of where new 'home' is if they are grounded for at least that long. Perhaps they are especially sensitive to a location's electro-magnetic field, they do seem to navigate well.

Speak softly to the cat, whether you see it or not. Try to form reassuring images in you brain- picture the cat happy and secure. Visualize the cat pleased to be in your company. Try to think only in images, not verbally, about the cat several times a day. I swear most are telepathic and the casual experiments I have run with cats and visualization have given me no reason to doubt my theory.

Some cats are pretty insecure. Some have damned good reasons. Be patient, kind and consistent. Give a good cat time and the rewards will be great.
