Have you ever gotten a headache from taking Lortab?
I got a prescription for them last night in the ER, after a rather embarrassing fall in the shower that resulted in a banged-up knee, hip, shoulder, and wrist. I've only been taking half of the recommended dose, but I still have a nearly constant headache while taking the darn things. They did this to me the last time I had to take them, too.

Has anyone else ever had this happen?

1. Yup, I get rebound headaches from certain drugs.

Tylenol #3 gives me wicked rebound headaches. Lortab is Acetaminophen (Tylenol) with Hydrocodone, a relative of Codeine.

Here's a link to an article about rebound headaches:

I'm sorry you got injured and hope that you feel better soon.

2. I appreciate the link, but...
I don't know if it applies to me. The article says rebound headaches are also called "medication overuse headaches" and I've only been taking half of a pill for less than 24 hours. Another odd thing--the Percocet I had to take during a kidney stone attack earlier this Fall didn't cause any headaches, but the Lortab I took about a year ago after my gallbladder surgery *did*. It seems to be specific to hydrocodone, with me.

I've been Googling it, but the only thing I've found so far is a mention that sometimes painkillers can cause low-blood-pressue headaches. My blood pressure is naturally a bit low, so maybe that's it?

6. They can definitely have that effect.

I can't take oxycodone without getting a massive headache, but do just fine with percocet and vicodin. If you can, ask the doctor to switch you to a different painkiller ASAP. You shouldn't have to endure that.

3. I've taken a lot of Lortab for ruptured lumbar disks

usually take half a 5-500 tab (they have much stronger tabs). If the half doesn't reduce the pain enough I take the other half. I don't get a headache from Lortab, but do get one next day sometimes from methadone (just took 5mg)

(edit for spelling,ack)

4. Meds Will Affect Everyone Differently
a lot of people get sick to their stomach from codeine, hydrocodone can do the same (lortab)

If it is lortab and not lorecet, you could take tylenol with it, but if it is lorecet, don't take tylenol you will get an overdosage

You also may have jarred your noggan when you fell, or at least strained muscles in your neck, etc.

but, who knows

go for the big guns, demand Dilaudid!

5. Oh god no!
I had Dilaudid while I was in the hospital after my surgery last year, and I'm not looking forward to having to take that stuff again. Every time they started injecting it into my IV, I had to brace because all of my stomach and chest muscles wanted to clench tight as soon as that stuff hit my bloodstream. Then I was itchy as hell and zombie-fied for several hours after.

It definitely worked well for the pain, though! Getting a shot of that stuff was like an instant Pain Off! switch.
