Rest In Peace: To those who left us in 2006
The purpose of this thread is to remember all of those - family members, friends, pets, or more well-known people - who passed away in 2006.

No one close to me has died this year, luckily. However, if you have lost someone close to you, please accept my heartfelt condolences.

Let us remember:

Lloyd Bentsen

Ann Richards

John Kenneth Galbraithv

Gerald Ford

James Brown

Dana Reeve

Red Auerbach

Steve Irwin

The hundreds of US service personnel and innocent Iraqi civilians killed in this god-awful war.

... and so many others whom I haven't mentioned.

A Catholic prayer for those who have passed:

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and may Eternal Light shine upon them.

May their souls, and all the souls of the faithful departed, by the Grace of God, Rest In Peace.

Amen.

1. damn....
Its pretty hard to believe that Steve Erwin died. I mean he was always so up beat and happy about everything. Its awful to think about how all of his work trying to gain respect for our environment and its animals suffered because of his death. I think he would definitely fall under the "true hero" category.

2. I was particularly saddened by the passing of Dana Reeves
It actually had a deep personal impact on me as I had been thinking about her and praying for her a lot during her final months. She and Christopher Reeve did so much good for this world during the time that they were on this earth and generations to come will reap the benefits.

Texas lost two giants -Ann Richards and Lloyd Bentsen. Both made America and the world a better place for having had them in it

Coretta Scott King, along with her husband, played such a key role in promoting tolerance, social justice and racial equality and inspiring millions around the globe in their quest for the same thing

Here in Australia we also lost Don Chipp, a great man in his own right who consistently placed an emphasis on social justice, compassion and a liberal domestic and foreign policy during his years in political life
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don_Chipp
We remeber those on DU who have passed on -who made this forum a better place for their having been on it

My sincere and heartfetlt thoughts, prayers, condolences and deepest sympathies are to all those who have lost loved ones this year. May they rest in peace and may their legacy live on
