How are 80s heavy metal bands rememberd today?

In Metallica's own words, "metal up your a**". Ain't that the truth?

2. I try to not remember them at all
I sometimes ride to work with a guy who's a big "hair band" fan. Of course, he was in his teens and early twenties during the eighties. For him, Kiss is probably the best band of all time and I think of them as one of the worst, and maybe the most annoying band of all time. Why do people get permanently STUCK on the music of their youth? I recognize the nostalgia factor, but come on! There's good new music being produced all the time. I'm constantly finding new stuff, and even new genres, that I wasn't familiar with.

I'm sorry if you're a fan of hair stuff, and I really don't want to seem offensive, but that "music", is maybe the most forgettable that I've ever heard. And no amount of fireworks can make it more appealing. To me, they were just circus acts designed to appeal to 14 year olds.

3. Hair Bands need not apply
I continue to listen to Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Metallica, Megadeth, Testament, Slayer, Anthrax and few others that were true metal.

4. Who?
I don't get 80s music at all. What the hell is the attraction? It seems to be wimpy, either when it ocmes to the "metal" or to the "pop." Eaaargh!

5. Man, I miss a lot of those
bands...the music I hear nowadays 9 out of 10 times, it really blows. I listen to my heavy metal station on the tv, plus the alternative, new hits music, and most of it...makes Warrant seem like musical geniuses...

7. Very well by me.
I'm an 80 hair metal girl and am NOT ashamed.
Besides; believe it or not; some of them actually had talent under all that hair.

8. I'm not trying to start an argument
these are NOT heavy metal bands. They are glam rock/hard rock

Which let me tell you LA Guns, Hell Yeah.............. and all the other bands were pretty great too.

Heavy Metal were bands like: Metallica, Mercyful Fate, Slayer, Juggernaut, Accept, Metal Church, SOD,
Anthrax for example.

Sorry I am a HUGE Heavy metal fan since high school in the eighties, I was considered a metalhead so when I see these bands get called 'heavymetal', oooooooooooooooooooohhhhh:grr: :7

9. I agree, but
the hair bands were thrown in as a sub group of heavy metal...I don't necessarily agree with it, but I believe thats why hair bands still have that label.

When I was in my wee years...I remember buying Poison, and G n R, because they were under the heavy metal section at the tape store...and I was thinking, hey! Heavy Metal, wow, must be just like Slayer/Metallica...and the look on my face, when I listened to poison/gnr the first time was...a kodak moment...I felt like I got had.

There was a heavy metal documentary, I watched on VH1 a couple months back, which described the different divisions within the heavy metal genre, and for the life of me, I cannot recall that documentary...

17. That's called "savin' the best for last", money . . .
"War Ensemble" remains my favorite Slayer song by a hair over, of course, "Angel of Death".

13. I saw a Whitesnake video on VH1 classic the other day....
and I couldn't help laughing.

All those hair bands went to the same school of posturing, mugging, and knee-lifting. I can't laugh too hard, though, because my own husband used to practice his "rock god" facial expressions too. :D

They all look so silly now.

15. Depends on who's remembering, also depends on the band.
Of the bands you picture, I loved the first, third and fifth--and still do. Saw them all live, interviewed one, wrote about two. Technically, these are all hard rock bands rather than metal bands, though I do realize they were categorized as metal back in the day.

16. they give me a HUGH!!11!! headache
I used to listen to this crap. Saw a few of them in concert. Agree that these are not metal bands. I saw some of the real metal bands. But those days are so far behind me and, I swear to god, one of the quickest ways to give me a headache and ruin my day is to hear any of this - metal or big-hair rock.
