42" -ish flat screen TVs:
What's better, LCD or Plasma? This seems to be about the size where the two types are both evenly available and it's the size that makes the most sense for my living room.
Thoughts?

6. My clunky old CRT is giving out slowly.
It's a panasonic that's maybe only 5 or 6 years old but it looks to me like the power supply is going bad. I got twice that long out of the Toshiba it replaced and it's the first Panasonic ANYTHING I've ever had trouble with.

2. Plasma is darker, LCD will look more blocky...
unless the dot pitch is terrific and there's a high contrast ratio.

The more I learn about LCD technology, the more I know anything halfway worthy as a proper successor to a comparable CRT screen costs 4x as much. :(

Still, they're improving...

3. From what I heard...and I can't tell you if it's true or not...
LCD screens last longer. Plasma "burns out" quicker.

Can't tell you if this is correct...perhaps someone like Hypnotoad can tell you.

I'm going to invest in an LCD soon--after my big ol' Sanyo bites the dust (and that may be 10 years from now).

5. I don't think burn in is much of an issue for plasma anymore
I read an interview with someone from a company that makes them (Trib article this past week) and he said essentially the current generation of plasma's pretty much got it solved.

But, it bears repeating, he works for a plasma company...

7. I've been reading up
on it myself. Got the impression that plasma doesn't have as long a life - by about 10,000 hours.
Also read some good things about Vizio - made in Southern California. (I didn't know we made anything in country anymore!)

Some reviews.
