We're having our New Year's food tonight, rather than tomorrow.
I am currently quick-soaking some black-eyed peas, which will be cooked with the leftover ham bone and rinds I saved from Christmas. I have pork chops that are going into the oven with some apple slices and sauerkraut in a couple of hours. Then there's the white rice to go with the black-eyed peas, and the homemade sweet cornbread, and collard greens. And cookies! I'm making more holiday cookies tonight, because I gave away all of the ones I made for Christmas. We're not drinking any alcohol tonight, though.

Are you making a special New Year's dinner? Tonight or tomorrow?

1. It's going to be a Korean fest here. We just got back from the Korean store. We're going to make
kimchi, bulgogi, New Year's soup, etc, etc. Very Holiday-ish.:-)

2. I've never had Korean food.
I'm going to go Google the stuff you mentioned because I'm curious about it now!

5. Well, Kimchi is really spicy pickled cabbage and bulgogi is a really thin steak marinated in soy

sauce, scallions, sesame oil and a few other things. The New Year's soup is a dumpling soup, I don't know everything in that, making it is my MIL's job, so I can't get involved or she'll hurt me. Kimchi is an acquired taste, it smells terrible but once you start eating it, you'll love it. You eat kimchi as a side dish with just about everything Korean.

7. Wow--kimchi sounds like a spicy version of sauerkraut
Sauerkraut, after all, is shredded pickled cabbage. :)

4. I am making fondue tonight.
Gruyere, some kind of Swiss cheese similar to Emmentaler but the name of which I did not catch, fresh nutmeg, garlic, white wine, and kirsch. Smallish slices of baguette to dip. I splurged on French wine to drink with it.

I have typical snackies set out now: cashews, honey mustard peanuts, chex mix, carrots, popcorn, the last of the Christmas cookies, candy.

If the cookies and candy don't get eaten up by the kids today, OUT that stuff goes.

6. Gumbo
I used to make Hoppin' John for New Year's day but the SO likes to make gumbo. The black eyed peas have to wait.

8. Cookies are almost done!
I just made two dozen Peanut Butter Cup Cookies (pictured below)

Then I ran out of miniature peanut butter cups before I ran out of cookie dough, so I finished the last dozen by planting Hershey Kisses in the middle instead of peanut butter cups. :)

Next are the chocolate and peanut butter chip cookies!

Pork chops and kraut are in the oven. Black-eyed peas are done. Just gotta make the rice, cornbread, and mashed potatoes.

9. Are you from the South?
It sounds like a Southern menu. I'm not familiar with people having special dinners for New Year's. Is that a common thing?

11. Yes, we're all Southerners here
I'm from West Virginia and Virginia. My better half is from North Carolina. Most people eat their traditional New Year's meal on New Year's Day in the South, but we're doing ours tonight because my sweetheart has to work tomorrow night.

10. I'm doing my dinner tomorrow, but was planning for tonight
I had company and loaded up on too many whole grain tortilla chips with spinach dip, carrots, celery, bruschetta, crusty Italian bread dipped in olive oil with herbs.

I'll just have a piece of lasagna later and save the Steak au Poive for tomorrow when I can enjoy it a little more.
