I needed a new monitor and I bought one. Why do I still feel depressed?
Edited on Sun Dec-31-06 05:49 PM by HypnoToad
The old one, 19", made everything blurry and I couldn't take it anymore.

Now I've got a new one whose performance is quite deliciously acceptable (20" diagonal; like the 19" but with 4 more inches on the right side). Yet I don't feel fulfilled.

Why?

3. Because material possessions don't make you happy

4. Because whatever's bothering you likely has nothing to do with the monitor.

5. That's interesting, Hypno. Mr. Writer just had the same problem.
He had a 19" CRT that began to blur on him, so he bought a very nice 17" Samsung LCD.

I'd say you're feeling bad because a material purchase such as buying a new monitor doesn't herald profound change in your life. However, this may be an opportunity to motivate yourself to use that monitor for something new and different. In other words, perhaps you can write a short story? Or research something intriguing on the Internet? Or make new friends on DU. :D

7. Well, my eyes do feel less depressed...
:D

There were legit reasons for doing this; education on a new career being one of them (one I started on before the fortune cookie told me I'd be going into a new career soon...)

I might be depressed because I had to spend the money - but on the plus side it's a decent model for the price... I had paid $100 more for a garbage-worthy model...

And new friends on DU would be cool too. I hope I can keep my current ones. :)

9. Hehe I am very certain you can keep your current friends. No doubt.
Education and a new career? Now, that IS profound change. Personally I tend to feel down when my life appears stagnant. If you ever need to talk, PM me.

:D

10. BTW, how's your new monitor working out?
Definitely a new career, I'm going to try to learn it on my own and submit my ideas to companies directly. I think I've got the talent... I hope! :D

12. Well this is Mr. Writer's monitor, and it is crystal clear...
with a 2 milisecond refresh rate - wicked fast. It makes killing Scotsmen that much easier. :P

Hypno, if you have the guts to submit business ideas to companies, then you most certainly have what it takes to develop a new career for yourself. Keep at it, okay?

13. 2ms?! Lemme guess, 2000:1 contrast ratio too...
Edited on Sun Dec-31-06 06:18 PM by HypnoToad
:wow: :D

Thanks! I will keep at it. Once I sufficiently perfect my abilities, a'submitting I will go. :D

(though I might have to find out copyright laws... I don't want to submit ideas, only for them to say "no" and then they use it and call them their own.)

14. 2000:1 contrast ratio? Indeed!
That's too funny. Although I heard that Samsung LCD's have been flying off the shelves. They're rather popular. We had to pick up a 17" because no 19" models were left for sale in our area.

Copyright laws? Now you're intriguing me. What kind of business is this?

15. See your PM, but as for LCD monitors
I nearly bought a 19" Samsung 2000:1 contrast ratio 2ms monitor yesterday. It wasn't widescreen so I didn't...

16. Because things don't make us happy
I suppose that for some people that they do. As for me though, things haven't made me happy lately at all. It kind of made getting Christmas gifts this year a bummer.
