What historical period would you want to live in... |
|
In keeping of our were would you live series....
something not in the last 50 years...
I think it would have to be during the enlightenment...probably colonial America...in the New England region or NY, stay away from those crazy slave states in the south....
I've noticed alot of kick-ass answers....by that I mean, fantasies of being someone who would be involved in great acts in the name of a cause....so let's divide this into two answers....
Your fantasy kick-ass response
And your live a normal life response...
My kick ass would be to be involved in the revolution, perhaps a delegate to the Continental Congress and an officer in Washington's Army.....

Granted, I'd need to be one of the priviledged to appreciate it, but I can't imagine anything more pure than watching the revolutions of thought and science occurring in Greece.
In normal life, I don't think I'd want to be in any other time. I rather enjoy indoor plumbing, air conditioning, computers and automobiles.

I have some strange simpatico with the Romans. Maybe because Americans are sometimes accused of being the "new" Romans.

6. Roman times, at the very top of its history |
|
Edited on Fri Jan-02-04 04:36 PM by Kamika
I would of course be a VERY VERY noble, rich and OH SO decadent lady :D
you know the kind who would eat expensive stuff and give the leftovers that would sometimes be whole chickens to the dogs or whatever hehe
And don't get me started on the slaves I would have :D
I love those times, they had beatiful clothes, they had makeup and everything, nice smelling oils they smeared in their hair etc.. mmm

A very rich Roman lady. Probably a Senator's wife - or mistress!
But it would have to be without knowing about the current modern conveniences.

8. Not too far back.. the 20s at best |
|
Especially if you mean I was traveling back from this time as myself.
I think back on all of the time travel romances I have read where the modern gal hooks up with the handsome historical (and frequently well-to-do aristocratic) hunk. Not gonna happen.
Far more likely a modern woman, should she go far back enough, would
a) be burned at the stake or jailed
b) die in a poorhouse
c) wind up a prostitute (not necessarily by her own choice)
or d) (my preference) wind up in a convent
Only imagine trying to blend in to another culture in the far-back past. Could you even eat, knowing the sanitary practices of the day? *l* Would you not go insane knowing what you know..how diseases are transmitted, how many will one day be eradicated but are now fully free to eradicate you and your children.... Hearing people talk of the wind and water elements of matter when you and you alone know about protons, neutrons, and electrons...having to guard everything you say, and even the way you say it?
I think the 20s would be the best place for me to wind up as a time traveler if I was going to be stuck there. I could work on rocking the vote, help with social protections reform etc. with an eye to how things wound up now.
