Such as these little gems on a thread about the Air France planes that were given NORAD escorts a few days ago: "Boy, those French passengers are gonna do the surrender dance, I'd love to see that", or "they should fly with their war weapons right up against the window so the surrender monkeys can see them", or "How many Frenchman does it take to defend Paris? No one knows, since it's never been tried."

And the ultimate truly sickening freeper French quote was on a thread about the thousands of deaths of French citizens, mostly elderly, during the horrendous heat wave that swept across Europe last summer:"Ten thousand down, ten million more to go." DISGUSTING!!!!

As one who has made a lot of friends from Montreal over the last couple of years, I found all that anti-French bullshit particularly infuriating.

At one point early last spring, I sent a mass e-mail to my friends up north, "on behalf of thinking Americans everywhere," apologizing for the disgraceful behavior of my fellow citizens toward the French. Thankfully, the people to whom I sent that e-mail fully understood and appreciated where I was coming from and assured me that no apology was necessary. But still, mmy conscience felt better after I composed that message and hit "send."

To any lurking freepers: Since the concept (let alone the reality) of a "conscience" is doubtless alien to you, I'll try to explain it:

A consicence is something that thinking people with a heart and a soul (i.e., liberals and progressives) have within themselves. It allows them to tell the difference between right and wrong. If you look hard enough, you'll occasionaly find even a Republican with a conscience! John McCain, for example.

Becuase if they did it only confirms my suspicions of the Right and the gun issue: they think only conservative white men should be allowed to own guns. These folks on the Right would be horrified if blacks, Hispanics, Arabs, Muslims, gays, environmental activists and abortion rights supporters armed themselves. They would be the first people to whine, bitch and complain about the need for more "gun control". And that is why the Left should oppose gun control.
