Should I drive to Iowa??? (Please, no anti-Dean flames.)
I've had an itching to drive to Iowa to help Dr. Dean get out the vote, and I've been considering selling off some extra collectible items on eBay to pay for the car rental, etc. (I'm not about to drive my car there.)

To my fellow Deanie-boppers, would it be better to donate the money, or volunteer my time? I think the car rental would be about $300 for a mini-van/SUV. I'm conflicted!

Cheers,
ADAM

1. Either that or some other way of getting there.
Just as long as you go.

2. Donate the Money
And save the time for something you can do locally (writing letters etc.) I think this will give you the biggest bang for your money/time.

6. Definitely considered!
Thanks for the input. I agree that I'll get more bang for my buck, and I could always volunteer in Tennessee later on.

11. Hon, you can volunteer in both places--in Iowa and at home...
don't look at it as "either/or."

All candidates will tell you that volunteers are their most precious resource.

3. Can you join a group?
Our Philly for Dean group is sending busloads of people and helping to pay for lodging. I just sent them a "scholarship" for that purpose. Do you have a group in your area you could join up with?

Frnakly, I think if you decide to go, you will really have a blast. It'll be a great experience. More fun than giving the money.

4. Go!
It's a once-in-a-lifetime event and you will probably meet some great people. I think they really need more people on the ground there too.

I really want to go myself but I haven't figured out a way.

Go for all of us who can't!

Mike

7. The reason for the rental car (big car, too)...
is that they need drivers for the GOTV effort for the primary.

13. Surely the campaign will take care of GOTV transportation?
They may need drivers, but do they also need vehicles? I would imagine those will be supplied there.

9. Donate your time...
I have worked on campaigns from the local to the national level, and I must say that the experience of working for and with those candidates has been extremely rewarding.

You don't have to sell off your stuff to donate time. Give your time...only with dedicated volunteers can a campaign be successful.

Best luck to you! :-)

14. adam
most definitely go there... if you have the slightest urge, you should go for it... it'd be a wonderful and memorable experience...

sure they could use the money, but to be honest, this close in the game, i think bodies are more important...

i'm trying to go via work, but i don't think that's gonna happen, so i'm thinking of trying to go for a weekend myself...

how long is the drive from atlanta? do you know?

if you go, i'm sure you'll have no regrets at all... and dean, and his entire staff, will be very thankful...

15. Hey Adam
Send me an email if you need a place to stay. I am a leaning Edwards Iowan and we have a big house close to downtown - 5 minutes from the campaign headquarters. We are hosting a few others since the hotels are full.

18. Hmmmm...I'd call the Dean offices and find out
Could be theyre short staffed - from the news it appears as if they have more $$ and less feet on the street...

But Dean has gone through a lot of his $$$ and Soros money may be going to Clark...

I'm a Clark supporter, but I think its awesome the way the Dean camp has gotten so many involved...if Dean wins the nom and they carry that momentum Novemeber will be a celebration!
