Coffee addicts- has this ever happened to you? |
|
This has happened to me on more than one occasion. I drink an ungodly amount of coffee everyday, iced, hot, whatever- I just always drink a lot of it. Then today I just didn't have any; it was too hot and there was none today (shocking!). I didn't think much of it until later this evening when I began to have a killer headache. This has happened before on days when I've had no coffee, so I'm wondering if I'm going through withdrawls :p

if I haven't had at least a cup of coffee. Although, iced coffee or hot tea can be substituted. Coffee withdrawal is right up there with MSG withdrawal...nasty.

so if you're not trying to get rid of caffeine in your diet, why not just stick to coffe or tea and leave out the added sugar from sodas?

whenever I get a headache I drink coffee, assuming it's a caffeine withdrawal thing. I'm such an idiot, I quit coffee for a few months but now I've fallen off the wagon again.

8. Yup... it's just about the only time I get headaches... |
|
... every once in a while I'll get one that passes real quickly, but if I go a day or 2 without caffeine... I get this constant headache that usually lasts for a few days, and nothing but caffeine will make it go away.
Every so often, I make a point of kicking the caffeine habit, just to know I can do it.
I'd do so permanently, but I just love coffee too much... and decaf doesn't do it 4 me.

12. You are addicted to caffeine |
|
My cousin married a woman that was addicted to caffeine. She would drink between 12 and 15 pots of coffee per day. NOT 12 -15 CUPS. 12 -15 POTS OF COFFEE.
She would wake up in the middle of the night with a splitting headache. The remedy was to go make/drink a pot of coffee. This would relieve the headache so that she should get back to sleep.
This is a truly serious situation.
Get Help.

in the day to drink that much fluid? You'd have to just sit on the pot drinking coffee and peeing continuously without a letup in either. Chain-drinking! Even at my worst, my absolute worst, I was only drinking 15 cups a day (and taking two Vivarin). Even that meant I had a coffee cup in my hand for at least 10 hours a day.

|
So 12-15 pots of coffee has to be approaching that level of caffeine concentration in the bloodstream.
Not healthy. I'm so glad I find coffee to be a noxious, repulsive liquid.

and feel very very tired if I don't my morning dose or two of coffee. Once, when I was young and foolish, I tried to break the bean habit. I had the headaches, but also my upper arms ached. That was really weird.
I was "clean" for a week or two. But I'm not giving it up again without a fight!

It has to do with the blood vessels in your brain dilating or something. You can't go cold turkey, you have to ween yourself off the stuff. But I never will.. I LOVE coffee. :loveya:

20. Coffee gets a bad rap..... |
|
It ain't that bad for you, and there's some solid evidence it does you good in certain situations: 1)Drink a cuppa before you drive, & you have a lower risk of crashes. 2) For some unknown reason that none of us in this area of research have figured out, it's protective against Parkinson's Disease.

Yep, When I've gone on not enough sleep for a long time, surviving on coffee and then get a good night sleep and forget to have any. By the time I realize what is going on, the headache is pretty intense. Takes about an hour for the next dose of caffeine to kick in and aleviate the pain.

Fixed it this morning by buying a 2-litre bottle of Vanilla coke. Caffeine is #6 on the ingredient list.

I don't mean that as insulting as it comes off, but have you not been paying attention, or what?
YES - if you abstain from coffee after having grown addicted to it, you will be subjected to the most blindingly agonizing headaches you can fathom this side of a brain tumor.
Amongst elitist circles, coffee is only considered adequately strong when drinking a cup can cure a headache - regardless of whether it's a caffeine withdrawal headache. The right cup of coffee should be able to cure a migraine.
There's a classic line from the excellent Phil Hartman show "News Radio" in which Dave Foley, having sworn off coffee in order to commiserate with a fellow staffer's attempt to quit smoking, ponders: "I don't know what exactly caffeine does for you, but I think that without it, your head caves in."
If you choose to join those of us in this lifestyle, welcome to it, but buy yourself a toddymaker, now, and stop wasting your life drinking anything else.

I knew caffeine was an addictive substance, you just need to look around at the people who have a lifelong habit of drinking coffee to realize they cannot function without it in the morning, I was just wondering to what degree the withdrawl symptoms were and how mild mine were compared to other individuals. I've been hooked on it since Freshman year- without it, there would've been some major problems on finals. And for the record, I'm 18.

I get killer headaches that start at the base of the skull and when I think back, I realize I haven't had coffee... I work graveyard shift and normally have XXXXXXXX cups of coffee. Hell, I can drink a cup on the way home and still be asleep by 730 am!
Those headackes are killers.

One pot of the stuff is a big day for me. When I miss my fix I will get a annoying mile headache about 24 hours after the last hit, but in my case drinking coffee at that point actually makes the headache worse so I just take Aleve.
After reading some of the descriptions of the headaches you guys get I feel really really lucky.

I guess you're question is already answered, but I have to say I had no idea it was so common! I also noticed I started getting massive headaches when I missed morning coffee (usually because I forgot to go to the store to get some the day before and I'm too late for work to stop anywhere!). I did manage to cut down though.. I determined by process of elimination that I can drink one 16oz coffee in the morning and one at lunch and I don't get headaches. That's still alot of coffee but not in comparison to when I drank nothing BUT coffee from dawn to dusk.

37. I quit cold turkey two years ago |
|
My homeopath told me to stop because it would antidote the remedy he prescribed. Coffee, even decaf, antidotes many homeopathic remedies. It's not just the caffeine, either. The aroma of coffee is a CNS stimulant in itself. When I quit, I suffered headaches for days and my homeopath suggested strong tea so I replaced the coffee with 4-bag cups of green tea. This helps with the caffeine withdrawal and green tea doesn't have the other stimulating chemicals found in coffee. Also, one of the bad side effects of caffeine consumption is a rise in cortisol levels. Green tea is high in l-theanine which reduces that effect.
